Vice President Richard Nixon was in Venezuela on the last leg of a South American tour in 1958. A mob in Caracas attacked his motorcade and came very close to getting to him. From the sounds of it, if they had, they would have torn him to pieces. The attack was staged by Venezuelan communists; Venezuelan troops and police disappeared. With who would the United States go to war with. I'm not sure. There was a mass military readiness on the part of the United States in a big mobilisation straight after the attack. My thinking was that should Nixon have been killed, the United States would react. But then, as I asked, would Eisenhower go to war over it? Venezuela would apologise and promise to punish the killers, so what more could Eisenhower do than that? |

Presuming he's still the Democratic candidate as the POD is two years earlier. It was close OTL so would Rocky do that bit better than Dicky, possibly especially in the TV debates, that would secure another Republican term? |
