Actors wake up as their characters?

  OK thanks for clarifying.  I think a large number of them would suffer badly, especially in action roles.  Far too much chance of getting killed or seriously injured because they don't have the necessary skills and knowledge.  In more 'refined' roles they would probably lack a lot of the knowledge they would need to fit in and some would probably end up in lunatic asylums because they were thought to be insane. 

  Take the Sean Bean/Ned Stark TL I mentioned earlier.  It assumes - which may well be correct given his previous roles - that Sean has not only read in some detail the TL and had some evenings discussing what could have happened with other actors/extras/etc but that he has some useful skills from his previous action roles and is gifted with a very useful piece of armour.  Even then he's having problems in that he's struggling to 'remember' faces and people's behaviour outside the book and a lot of those who know him are wondering about the clear change in his personality from 'Ned'.  So far acting skills, the fact he's somewhat befuddled after the resurrection by the old gods and simply he's been very successful.  - 1st about half way through reading the 1st books and don't know if he will have to come clean with/trust someone at some point.]
