The FBI investigation of Spiro Agnew began in 1971. What if they found out about his bribery and tax evasion right away. Without Watergate and the prospect of Nixon resigning there is no incentive to give Agnew a generous plea deal. So he goes to prison. Agnew resigns or is removed by impeachment before John Conally becomes controversial because of his role as leader of Democrats for Nixon. So Nixon gets his first choice as the new Vice President. OTL Conally was indicted for bribery on the day Nixon resigned.His lawyers were able to exclude some evidence and he was found not guilty. ITTL the House Judiciary Committee probes all the evidence and drafts articles of impeachment against President Conally. He resigns in October 1974 after Nelson Rockefeller is confirmed as Vice President. The 1974 midterms are an even bigger Democratic landslide. Bill Clinton is elected to Congress. President Rockefeller is defeated in the 1976 Republican primaries by Ronald Reagan. Jimmy Carter defeats Reagan in the general election.
