Interesting insights into a very strange set of circumstances. Thanks for that. Why is Hess more dangerous than Doenitz who was the last head of state of Germany. Possibly because Hess was, until his flight to Britain, a key member of the Nazi party and IIRC Hitler's offical heir while Doenitz had been a serving military officerand did end the German resistance when he was made head of state. As such Hess was probably seem as more of a political Nazi. Also there seems to have been some power politics involved with the Soviets being determined to keep someone in Spandau as it gave an excuse for their presence in W Berlin.

I didn't consider the Soviet power play. That makes sense. Well it makes sense as to my the Soviets want to keep the prison active. Why they kept Hess there rather than someone else could be the reasons I guessed but could be something else.
