  Basically Ferguson was too intelligent and honest for his own good in a way.  The problem with Mormon theology is to explain how all that would be known by the assumed Israeli settlers, including metal-working, the wheel and old world domestic animals which are so much more production than the known new world equilvance have totally disappeared by the time the Spanish arrived.  [As well as the very concept of creatures such as horses].
