If there was no Watergate can Nixon help get John Connolly the 76 nomination? Does this butterfly Reagan and Carter ever becoming president??

Reagan almost won the 1976 Republican nomination running against an incumbent President. Carter needs Watergate. So some other Democrat defeats Reagan. The economy is bad and he has a record of unpopular opinions like his opposition to Medicare. Another thing that hurts Conally is without Watergate Nixon introduces a health care program that passes Congress with Democratic votes. Republican conservatives are angered by the health care program which Conally loyally supports.

I think mcnutt means Connolly would be Nixon's v.p. had water gate not happened.

There is a small chance Vietnam would end up in a Korean-like situation, but probably South Vietnam would end up falling a few years later But You also have things going on in Laos and Cambodia, that was not the case with South Korea who only shared one border with North Korea. |

I tend to agree that South Vietnam was unsalvageable. There were too many problems, especially with leaky borders. South Korea still had a border issue but nothing like South Vietnam. You only have to look in the region to Taiwan: without a land border, they have always been safe.
