Star Trek: Premier Chekov (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Alternate Ending)
Commander Pavel Chekov's severe head injury drastically altered his personality. The first clue is him referring to his rank as "Premier" instead of "Admiral" when Admiral Kirk and the others sprang him from the hospital. Moments after the captured Klingon Bird-of-Prey, the HMS Bounty, chases off the whaling ship, Chekov suddenly phasers Admiral Kirk and the rest of the bridge crew. He then flies the Bounty to Moscow under cloak and meets with the Soviet military leadership in secret. Chekov reveals himself as being from the future, informs them on how the USSR will break apart thanks to Gorbachev, and offers to help them achieve World Revolution with the aid of the futuristic alien warship. The Soviet military along with the KGB removes Gorbachev from power and declares Pavel Chekov as the new CPSU General-Secretary. Within years, the Soviet Space Fleet is formed in secret thanks to Soviet scientists and engineers reverse engineering the Bird-of-Prey with Scotty's help (at phaserpoint). At the dawn of the 21st Century, the Soviet Union attacked NATO with it's new Bird-of-Prey fleet and won the conflict in just a matter of days. All of Europe is substantially annexed by the Soviet Union. North America for the most part was untouched by the redrawing of borders though the Soviets did take back Alaska; the U.S. and Canada are allowed to continue to exist but under Soviet political and military domination; ironically the government agent (aka "Bond" in the book) who interrogated Chekov onboard the USS Enterprise CVN-65 in 1986 is appointed as the new puppet president of the U.S.. Eventually, the entire world is under Soviet rule. UN Headquarters is moved from New York to Leningrad and only the CPSU General-Secretary could be UN Secretary-General. Earth, under Soviet leadership, seeks to expand out into the Solar System and beyond.
