Quite possibly, although with the technology of the time a relatively undeveloped region like Ireland with a lot of wilderness could be difficult to control. Unless its less a desire to rule than to destroy, which it might just be with the political situation. Coupled with religious feeling you could see the sort of extreme settlement of religious differences that occurred in the Thirty Years War, which could be very bad for the Irish. Steve
