I don't know enough about the history of Mexico in this period. It might be that, after losing Texas and then gold being discovered in California and it gains an Anglo majority and successfully rebels then someone competent overthrows him or simply he dies in an accident at some point. On the old CF site there were a couple of TLs which involved a stronger Mexico, at least one going back to a ~1819 POD but one involved Mexico doing somewhat better in an 1846 conflict with the US and coming out of it with Southern California and much of the SW area [New Mexico/Arizona] but unfortunately I think they were lost with the site. [Unless their also posted on AH but since I don't go there I can't tell you ] Its not just he might start wars that Mexico can't afford, even if they don't lose. He's a incompetent idiot who screws up Mexico internally. Don't think he's the only one by a long way but the most notorious.

Like many present day ones a successful politician to them is often one who stays in power rather than one who actually does any real good. Mind you 11 'terms' over 22 years suggests a very unstable government, especially since a number of those were non-consecuative. Since I assume that a Presidential term should last longer than 2 years.

Well i do not think that with a much bigger Mexico who did not fight a Mexican-American War things might change as in this universe Mexico still lost Taxes and California.
