The United States of Greater Austria (German: Vereinigte Staaten von Groß-Österreich) was a proposal, conceived by a group of scholars surrounding Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, that never came to pass. This specific proposal was conceived by the lawyer and politician Aurel Popovici in 1906 and aimed at federalizing Austria-Hungary to help resolve widespread ethnic and nationalist tensions. Interesting. I guess Franz Ferdinand's assassination ruined chances of this. It may have been more stable.

I see United States of Greater Austria as a greater version of Yugoslavia, it will only be a matter of time before it implodes and this time it will take many other countries in Europe with them.

Yugoslavia ended like it did due to the imbalance of power between the different ethnic groups. If they can keep Greater Austria liberal and democratic, it has a shot at working.

So if Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in the period of 1906 to 1910 mange to create United States of Greater Austria would that prevent the Great War as the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in 1914 can still happen but it will not be the Austro-Hungarian Empire but instead in the United States of Greater Austria.

If it's liberalized it may assuage the Black Hand's concerns to a degree.

It could but the Black Hand might still want their own country made up of territories with a South Slavic majority not ruled by either Serbia or Montenegro, a United States of Greater Austria like it predecessor the Austro-Hungarian Empire might still be in the way for them.

They will try even with a United States of Greater Austria to create their own country, thus the change that the United States of Greater Austria will go to war with Serbia and thus create the situation as in OTL is still present.

I think a USGA would be more inclined to diplomacy, if the liberalness needed to federalize is present.

But it will only work if the old Kaiser is not in charge of the United States of Greater Austria.
