There was a brief courtship period with Russia during the Clinton and Yeltsin years. Japan's economy stagnated while Tiananmen was still fresh in people's minds so China becoming the next supervillain makes sense. Especially since the PLA had no regards for unarmed students and would use military force to maintain the CCP's hold on power. Another villain was either Saddam, Castro, or Kim Jong-il at this period, with cartoons like The Simpsons making satire out of them. Of course, 9/11 happened and the stereotypical enemies became Arabs or South Asians. Could make shared word thread about a 2nd Civil War due the Tiananmen crackdown, the Civil War could end up costing more lives than the 2nd Civil War and could involve more than one faction like India, North Korea and of course Taiwan. Read countless timelines about a Second Chinese Civil War after Tiananmen. It will be costly because I was told in a separate forum that the Second Artillery Corps planned to use nuclear weapons on PLA bases that refused to carry out orders on suppressing the student demonstrations. So the SCCW would be like the 2RCW in the Death of Russia since nuclear weapons would be involved. The ending is grim. China is balkanized with many factions claiming legitimacy but places like Tibet and Xinjiang become independent. The ROC even establishes a foothold on Fujian and Guangdong. India would retake its lost territories as well. North Korea loses its backer to its get absorbed by the ROK. |

It would be funny that North Korea would be coming to the aid of China, considering their people and their troops aren't well fed. Tibet would take advantage of the chaos and break off from the PRC. Taiwan would definitely love to get back at the CCP. We might see Chinese boat people make landfall in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and the rest of maritime Southeast Asia. More refugees would cross the jungles into Vietnam and Myanmar. Speaking of Vietnam, it would probably try to retake the Paracel Islands and Johnson South Reef. The USSR would probably deploy troops to the border to prevent a spillover of the conflict. The inevitable will be coming: Communism will fall. Poland will still have its democratic elections, followed by Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, and so on. Romania will still erupt into a bloody revolution and the USSR would inevitably dissolve sooner or later. Germany will still be reunified under the FRG. Maybe in the Western Hemisphere, Cuba would face a popular revolution which would probably oust Fidel Castro. Endless posibilities. |

Doubt any country can handle the amount of people fleeing China, in OTL more than 800,000 fled Vietnam, i can see that triple in numbers if the 2nd Chinese Civil War also involves nuclear weapons deployed by the Communist. |

Japan might had a debate on Article 9 on offensive weapons issue if the Diet aka the Parliament would approved on JSDF having offensive weapons and making the Japanese Self Defense Force into a true military force.
