how many of them do you think survive the war? Are any of them preserved as museums? do any of them see service in the postwar era? The guns on this or not the 8 inch they’re a hypothetical 5 inch 38 triple. a. I expect most of them to be sunk in battle or to be scrapped. b. Maybe one, if the money is raised. Battleships got a better more glamorous press from WWII as did submarines. The only reason we have flattop museum ships at all is because we museumed some Korean War veterans. c. You will NEVER see US 5 inch mounts in a triple configuration. The reason is that mutual in flight interference in the AAA role was a thing that was to be avoided. US AAA was odds even with the left and right barrels firing independently. |
