But why should they? For farmers, it's more convenient to have a calendar where harvest is in the same month every year.

PoD: The Romans adopt a Luni-solar calendar from one of the ancient Greek city states I don't know too much about such a calendar so I can't really say what I feel would be the likeliest outcome if such a move was to be made here but I think it would be confusing and problematic. The solar calendar makes sense as it's how long the Earth takes to orbit the Sun. A calendar set with the Moon would cause the days to move. You would have months with 28,29,30, and 31 days. For farmers this would be a right pain to work out. So I think it would be replaced at some point. As for how this would influence the Greek city-states I honestly have no idea. This is the first time I have even heard of such a calendar.

To take one example: The Chinese calendar works like this: "Years start on the second (or third) new moon after the winter solstice."
Sounds awfully complicated. Maybe better than a purely lunar calendar, but still.

Maybe better than a purely lunar calendar, but still. I just don't see any reason to use such a calendar. It sounds like an utter nightmare to work out. Outside of it being linked to your nation in some way using the Moon as a way to tell where you are in a year sounds like a lot of work for little gain.

SpaceOrbisHistory , why don't you watch the vid I posted? It reveals the pros of having a luni-solar calendar I didn't watch it because based on what others have posted and what little my minute or so of reading what the hell a luni-solar calendar was it sounded like an utter mess to work out and would be less helpful. But I'll watch it now and see if anything is updated.

I didn't know it did that. I tag people mostly so I can see what I'm replying to easier. I do it more out of it simply being how I use forums, but I guess I could just post a reply without tagging them and hope they know I was replying to their post.

Tagging is okay if you really need to, but not every time you post which this member seems to be doing a lot. If you quote like what you are doing it has the same effect.

The Anglo-Saxons appeared to have a 19-year metonic calendar, similar to the Hebrew calendar. It would be a more religious-based calendar with intercalary months being added in to keep it in line with seasons. It would require work to keep it in line with the solar calendar, which is a bit of a downside, but it's not terrible, given the Hebrew faith has done so for thousands of years.
Historically, I don't think it would change much, just the years we use. We might still consider the month of the spring equinox the start of the year, rather than the month after the winter solstice with such a calendar.
