I had 2001 on today, the Dr Dre album. It has been years since I listened to it. Some of it is fantastic, other bits not so much so. It really is violent music!

Even though I despite communism and what it stands for, I couldn't help but find this spin on the Pirates of the Caribbean theme to be...catchy, as much as it reeks of Soviet musical inspiration.
SOVIETS OF THE CARIBBEAN
...As such, perhaps Captain--or, sorry--Comrade Jack Sparrow could use a new theme song.

I don't know we can guarantee that, but I'd expect more influence from whatever 'ministry of culture' existed in Soviet Russia to play a visible role in their PotC equivalent. Coupling that with the inferior artistry, storytelling and special effects of the time, the end product would probably be a great deal less epic and just another way of reiterating the standard Marxist talking points in fictional form. Though, I can definitely see colonial empires like Britain and Spain, as well as the various supernatural monstrosities of the Caribbean--which already play an antagonistic role in the actual films--being depicted as even more villainous, perhaps even caricature-like and lacking redeeming, audience-intriguing qualities to the bone. Which would seriously water down characters like Cutler Beckett and Davy Jones, characters whose OTL versions I enjoy watching in action. But now my commentary has become tangential.

I must admit it made me think of the old Space Invader's game with the aliens scrolling down the screen. Only saw the 1st film and not a great fan as I found it rather superficial and also too supportive of pirates, who were on the most part vile and murderous but each to their own. Probably didn't help its case with me having characatored Brits as the evil villeins.

...Eh, that's fair. In addition to the kinds of people who'd probably have gravitated towards a life of piracy back in the day (which in of itself is a thieving, brutish profession), reports of keel-hauling sound rather...inhumane. Then again, the European colonial empires could be rapacious and destructive themselves, given their callous treatment of the people who they subjugated and whose land they took and exploited by force. But now I'm delving into historical drama.

Like it, funny and bright but also shows the tragedy that is modern Ireland, at least in the deeply divided north.

So apparently, there's been a trickle of song covers that feature more historical inspiration. Medieval ones are the most common types that I've found thus far, though I've also seen Ancient Egyptian and Mongolian covers of the Coffin Dance meme circulating online. Anyway, here's some Medieval-inspired covers that I enjoyed (though how true they are actual musical trends of the time, I'm unsure). Bad Romance (Medieval Style Cover)Holding Out for a Hero (Medieval Style)Poker Face (Medieval Style)Oh, and there's apparently plenty more where those came from. Hopefully, those interested in checking them out like what they see.

And here's another one from Audiomachine, a company whose work I'm pretty sure I've shared here before.
