Yes. Nothing but the Fort Knox gold gets changed here. Do we know if Fort Knox only houses US gold ore also for other countries. Sadly, I couldn't find anywhere that specified. According to the United States Mint, though, half of the Treasury's 147.3 million ounces of gold holdings is stored at Fort Knox. And there are other important facts and figures there, to boot.

Not sure how much of the world's total 'owned' gold that is but, presuming it becomes public, the disappearance of a significant proportion of the world's gold into something else will increase the price of gold. At least unless there's a panic rush out of gold because people their their stockpile might be affected and forget that platinum is more valuable. Correspondingly the price of platinum could drop simply because more - maybe a lot more - of it is available.
If other nations have sizeable gold reserves there and those are affected then it might depend on the circumstances. Including of course the governments involved finding out about it. In theory the value of their stockpile has increased unless the stockpile of platinum is so greatly increased that the value drops to less than gold. However gold is a traditional source of wealth and there could be a disconnect between the actual situation and the feelings of the people involved.

The other issue with this is that, unless their duplicated, this means that they disappear from 1979/80 Iran. Which means Iran can't release them and I can't see the US under either Carter or Reagan accepting a claim they disappeared into thin air. So a good likelihood that the US and Iran goes to war sometime in the early 1980's.

And would the USSR get spooked by America getting physical over there?

Probably right on both accounts. Especially since their only recently invaded Afghanistan themselves. This could get very messy even if the big two don't end up fighting each other.

...Damn it. Why must it be so easy to create potential dystopias from seemingly innocuous PoDs??

In that case, how about ' The Mandalorian Airs On 1979 TV', complete with modern visual and sound quality? Maybe it'll compensate for the cringe-y Star Wars Holiday Special shtick that aired the previous year.

What if just before Louis XVI's beheading a thundering voice from out nowhere would say STOP.

Its surprising how many nasty affects can occur by chance. Or possibly just because we know OTL then anything that differs we often see potential pitfalls more than potential gains.
How about this for a frivolous ASB then. All Americans [and others who follow them] are converted to English spelling and vocabulary. That is the 'u' returns, s replaces z and dates are in ddmmyy format for instance. This is both in terms of daily use and existing documents and software changing.

Mm’kay. If nothing else, I assume they still retain American accents, perhaps as one last holdover of how they used to speak and spell?

‘All Twitter Users Become Birds’. Because, you know, posting on Twitter is called tweeting (which birds do).
[Awkward silence]...I’ll see myself out now.
