Still have a few hours to go. Neighbors are fire-working already.

Still have a few hours to go. Neighbors are fire-working already. Same here, over in the American Midwest. Happy celebrating to you, and the same to everyone else!

Watched some movies and read a book. Fireworks died down and then all was quiet. I noticed the quiet. I could hear the mechanicals in the house. One never notices how the pipes creak and the ventilation ducts rattle until it is this quiet. Heard a cat outside. Hopefully 2022 will be a quiet year. I am tired of the Chinese proverb.

Well I will have a fairly quiet night in gaming on the computer - basically as usual.
Have a good even and hope we all have a better new year. What games are you playing at the moment?
Well solo I'm currently playing Medieval 2 total war. Went back to it a month or two back as I wanted something fairly simple as not feeling like something too heavy and surprised by how much I had forgotten. In my 3rd attempt, on Very Hard setting, am most of the way to victory as England, - VC are hold 45 provinces including Jerusalem and I have ~32 including Jerusalem - although the Mongols are being a pain. Unfortunately fighting on quite a lot of fronts - on the VH setting you can rely on most of your allies to attack you sooner or later. Have the British Isles N France, the Low Countries, most of Germany and have just recently captured Jutland from Denmark. In the east three crusades mean I've got 8 provinces including all of Egypt and the Levant coastline up to Cilicia. Currently at war with Spain, Milan - as a result of another crusade as they upset the Papacy and I grabbed Dijon from them - Venice, Denmark, Poland, the Egyptians, Turks and Mongols. Got to the point as a micromanager it takes probably 2-3 hours to do a single turn but keeps me busy when I have time. Hopefully however finish it off in a week or three.
The primary reason I have this game as a mod of this is Divide and Conquer, a big Middle Earth based game - spot the Tolkien fan. Intend to get back to that some time although might wait until version 5 comes out but we have been waiting for that for quite a while.
With a mate - albeit not much happening in the last month or two been playing a mod of Master of Orion 2 - which dates from the early 1990! Still quite a fun game.
Got talked into playing a multi-player game, AoD [Arsenal of Democracy] which I think is a mod of Paradox's Hearts of Iron 2, i.e. a WWII conflict. Only assisting the Japanese player who is the bod who talked me into it but will probably playing another nation solo next time around. Also, although suspended for a few months more is a solo game as the Soviets as the power I'm most familiar with. - Wanted to refresh my abilities as a few years since I played and also this is a mod of AoD. That is the planned priority after the Medieval 2 game finishes.
What do you mean an addict. I can stop playing ... any time there's a power cut.

I must admit I was expecting some more noise here but only a few fireworks around midnight itself and very quickly settled down. While looking for something else on the computer I came across an old AH e-book from ~2014 and have just finished the 1st volume so could get addicted to it again later tonight.

Arsenal of Democracy with the CORE mod is probably the peak of HoI in my view. The older graphics are counterbalanced by superior systems to the dumbed down nonsense that is HoI4. I don’t mind some of the features of the newer game, but there are issues (no control over allied troops option, no immobile units + an idiotic AI, events that have no choice or consequence, lack of air war data and a joke of sea war) that make it unplayable for someone who is a stickler for accuracy.
I’ve got a bit of an addiction as well to Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Stellaris, Baldur’s Gate, Civilization and Crusader Kings 2; I need to get a better computer to run some more modern games comfortably.
Whilst I did not play games on NYE, I made up for it on NYD.

The version I'm playing is Jarski's 'improved mod'. Think it has stripped down diplomacy somewhat and player nations can get excessively powerful but then since I've never played multi-player before that could be a big factor. Plus I know from reading AAR's that an experienced player in the standard mod can do far, far better than really realistic in history. Remember reading about and briefly looking at CORE a while back but since I'm a slow micromanager I never really got to fully explore the basic game. That's why my experience was with the Russians. Their definitely the simplest of the great powers to play but by the time I had done a couple of games a new version was out and I have to adjust to it.

I can’t recommend CORE highly enough. My one issue is some of the errors of ship class names and divisional nomenclature, but that pales into comparison with the dog’s breakfast of HoI4, where the AI will pull every US garrison out of the Pacific to line the Canadian border and the French AI pulls everything out of their empire to guard the dangerous Spain.

On the plus side, our fire department put the fire out and saved our neighbor's house. Good old Al (ClO 4) 3 and too muchy C2H5OH does not go well together.
