Chapter 7: The Day Before Everything "Switzerland and Austria are reportedly mobilizing their reserves. No explanation given."
"'Frequent, steady gunfire' reported in Herat, Afghanistan. Taliban blamed for insurgency."
"Refugee ships turned back by Italian Coast Guard. Those resisting are apparently 'sunk'. Foreign ministry yet to comment."
"Brazilian Police conduct raid in the favela of Rio De Jainero after suspected 'violence' occurring among criminal elements."
"President Trump blames illegal immigrants for causing violence among the six affected states."
"Mexico rumps up armed forces in Honduras border."
---- October 16, 2018 Los Angeles, California
The streets and helicopters whirling above, everyone just ignored it. People say that it was probably a drill in case of terrorist attack, something that Americans have been wary of since 9/11 and the Boston Marathon Bombings in 2013.
Though for the case of the law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and the military, things were much different. The police somehow got wind of the disease from victims and injured colleagues on the description of the attackers. Once they knew what was going on, they informed the State Government, which in turn informed the CDC, which in turn passed on the info to the White House in Washington, D.C. Once tests came back, it became very clear that it was not PCP but a some form of a virus that turns the people infected into aggressive individuals. On the orders of the Trump administration on not wanting to cause a panic, it was kept as a media blackout, blaming everything on drugs and hallucinogens to riots caused by gangsters, illegal immigrants, and the MS-13 gang. The police were initially successfully in dispatching the initial attackers but soon cases started to arise even further. The police were at the risk of being overstretched even the general public did not know about it. For every infected killed, two more cases would take its place somewhere along the city.
It was a losing battle as the tide was growing larger and larger. The law enforcement agencies were only delaying the inevitable. The California National Guard, as well as the National Guards of the states of Oregon, Washington, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona were placed on standby but were not mobilized yet since the presence of tanks and armored vehicles would definitely cause alarm among the public. By the time the horrible truth came crashing down on everyone, it was already too late...

October 16, 2018 (7:15 pm) Venice Beach Los Angeles, California
"Times have been rough but thanks man, for being there for me," Gillan said as he patted Mike.
Both of them were chilling in this famous area, watching the orange sunset lining up the Pacific Ocean. There were still a lot of tourists and beach hooligans, still enjoying despite the news of random cases of violence popping out.
Their friendship would ultimately mean a lot in just less than day.
----
October 16, 2018 (9:00pm) Uptown Los Angeles
Gabrielle was worried after she heard the news of six cases appearing in San Francisco. Her family was up there. The day before, she assured them she was safe. And now she was worried for them. Her younger sister, only 13 years old, remained in Bohol since it was still classes ongoing for the non-college students. Dialing the number of her phone, she was thankful her mother was able to answer it.
She phoned her parents up north. They told her it would be better that she'd come there to be safe.
"You're so far away. So far, no strange thing occurred in our place but I'm worried. If you can make it here by tomorrow, it would be better. I heard the CHP have placed roadblocks around the Interstates. The better you arrive here. And don't forget to pray for a safe trip."
"Ok, I'll go now mom. Bye and love you."
Approaching Charles, she then told him the bad news. "
Charles, I'm sorry but I have to leave for San Francisco tomorrow. I'm sorry dear, but my family is concerned now with all these random attacks. Plus, there are cases of it appearing up there in Frisco. I'm sorry but we have to leave early since the CHP are setting up road blocks."
Charles approached his girlfriend, hugging and comforting her. "Alright, I'll drive you to San Fran tomorrow. Better pack up your things." Gabrielle then packed her clothes and souvenirs in her rucksack she used during her time as part of that mountaineering group she used to be part as undergrad.. The drive to San Fran would be long. She needed to rest. "
I'm gonna get some sleep. Good night baby," Gabrielle said as Charles kissed her on the forehead.
----
South Central Los Angeles was engulfed in chaos. The gangs were stirring up trouble by taking advantage of the current situation. "This is like '92 all over again." Mumbled the Commander Miller as they quickly donned in their riot gear. The police were forming a defensive line with their riot shields as they moved forward in a phalanx position. The Latinos were hurling rocks and projectiles at them, all while cursing in Spanish and flipping the birds. Francis, who was behind the defensive line, used a Milkor MGL to shoot tear gas at the rioters. Six shots later, tear gas was dispered in the area, causing the Latinos to run away. Others who tried acting like a badass were arrested on sight.
Ray and fellow SWAT officer named Johnson were currently apprehending a suspect, who shouted obscenities at them. They then placed him a long with the captured rioters. Francis went back to the van, tired from the day. It resembled a mix of L.A. '92 and Ferguson 2014, but there appeared to be no motive aside from just hooligans wanting to ransack the place. He knew he would be deployed further since the riots temporarily only subsided for now.
----
Spencer Logan and the rest of his group were at a nightclub. Spencer managed to win first-runner up in the pinball tournament, only coming short to another player from Texas. For that, he won $15,000. He called his parents who were proud of him. His friend Trevor in the Marines also congratulated him. Now they were celebrating this moment, dancing and partying to the tunes. The DJ then played "Like a G6" by the Far East Movement. Spencer was feeling in the moment along with his friends. Party harder. You earned this Spencer. He thought to himself as him and his friends chugged a bottle of tequilla while dancing to the beat.
Poppin bottles in the ice, like a blizzard When we drink we do it right gettin slizzard Sippin sizzurp in my ride, in my ride, like Three 6 Now I'm feelin' so fly like a G6 Like a G6, Like a G6 Now now now now now now I'm feelin so fly like a G6 Like a G6, Like a G6 Now now now now now now I'm feelin so fly like a G6

Chapter 8: It Begins
"All good things must come to an end." - Geoffrey Chaucer, Troilus and Criseyde (1374) October 17, 2018 (12:30 AM) Beginning of Z-Day Los Angeles Freeway
Midnight is Los Angeles was not different, if not for the news of the riots and "bizarre" occurrences of drug outbreaks. Here, a car crash resulted in a traffic jam in one of the busiest roads of Los Angeles. A car apparently overturned, with all occupants dead. The California Highway Patrol, along with the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Emergency Medical Services. As the firefighters and the paramedics retrieved one of the men, one of the EMS tried to perform CPR, but the man stood up and bit the paramedic on the throat, severing his jugular. Blood immediately sprayed in the gurney and the road below. By instinct, the CHP officers dragged the man away from the wounded paramedic. The other paramedic immediately rushed towards the wounded colleague while the officers ordered the attacked to stay where he was. Instead, the man continued on while growling aggressively towards the highway patrolmen. The officers responded by beating him with their nightsticks, but oddly the man did not react to the pain. The man then set his sights on a firefighter, who backed away from the impeding attack. Seeing now choice, the officers pulled out their handguns and shot the man several times in the chest and the legs. The man fell on his knees then for almost a second or two, immediately went back upright on his feet. This shocked and terrified the first responders on the scene. By instinct, one of the CHP officers shot the man in the head, putting him down for good. The entire scene was captured by a new chopper hovering above. However, because the incident occurred at midnight, not much people were able to see the video until the following morning.
---- Mike's friend stayed up late.
Right now, he was resting while looking for a job to take things off the heat. Before he slept, his checked his Instagram. He saw several stories being posted around the other side of the globe. Why I do still follow Kimberly? He asked himself. If she does not want me back, then I should cut ties. He thought. As he tapped on Kimberly's icon, it was a story of Kimberly and Clyde together. Honestly, Gillan did not care at this point. The next story was from someone he met only twice from 2016-2017 though he had wish they had spent time together. When he tapped the icon, he then realized the world was small.
"Oh crap!" Gillan shouted.
Mike then came, holding a bottle of root beer. "What's the matter?"
"Umm, nothing, just saw someone else's story that they are also here in Los Angeles right now. A friend of mine from two years ago...We only met twice unfortunately."
"Oh I see. Well, do you want to meet with this person?"
"No, we didn't get to be close friends and plus we are still semi-awkward right now. Haven't really reconciled fully. I don't want to be awkward with this person."
"Agreed." Mike replied.
---- Francis and the SWAT were constantly deployed back and forth. Fatigue was starting to affect their unit though they ultimately needed to fight it to protect and serve the population of Los Angeles. He decided to take a quick nap in the back of the SWAT van as it raced down the streets of Downtown to the next area where violence was occurring.
---- Spencer continued on partying with his pinball friends, completely unaware of their surroundings. All in his mind after today was to see his friend Trevor in San Diego the following day. The marine was scheduled to be on leave to spend time with his friend.
---- Charles and Gabrielle slept peacefully in their hotel room, also unaware of the increasing reports of mobs and violence around Los Angeles. They would be driving to San Francisco tomorrow, as Gabrielle's family was looking for her. They needed all the rest they can as it will be a long drive up north.
While they all slept or did their own business, everyone around the world in the field of capitalism, commerce, business, and social media did not realize it was slowly falling apart. Reality would ultimately come crashing down in a few hours.

Intriguing. That it ends that quickly suggests either a cure or whatever caused it stops. Ideas of some sort of genetic warfare or an alien intervention that has gone wrong in some way? Have to see what you come up with.

My first contribution: Chapter 8a: The Lone Star Crisis "County Judges Clay Jenkins, Wesley Richey, B. Glen Whitney, and Chris Hill meet with Governor Greg Abbott, reasons unknown" -Dallas Morning News
"Terminal C closed temporarily for maintenance, flights rescheduled to fly out of Love Field" -Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
"Flight from LAX reportedly carries victims of the PCP Drug Epidemic" -Texas Tribune
"Governor Greg Abbott reportedly spoke with Governors Jerry Brown (D-CA), Brian Sandoval (R-NV), Doug Ducey (R-AZ), Kate Brown (D-OR), Jay Inslee (D-WA) about PCP Epidemic and violence in Los Angeles." -Fort Worth Star-Telegram
"Uptick in violent behavior across North Texas, violent attackers placed in trucks and shipped to the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center." -Texas Tribune
"Texas State Fair closes 5 days early after CPC violence." -Texas Tribune
October 17th, 2018 (7:09 AM Local Time) A Suburb in North Texas
While adults may have been concerned about the violence that had now bleed into Texas, the children remained blissfully unaware. As far as they knew, it was any other Wednesday morning, although there parents seemed somewhat on edge. Michael was one of those children. 12 years old and in the 7th grade, he was listening to talk radio on a local station as his parents drove him to school, the morning routine he had had since Kindergarten. He heard the radio host mention Los Angeles, which did perk Michael's interest, he had tickets to visit Los Angeles in about a month for Thanksgiving. Michael, like hundreds of thousands of Texans, was California-born and still had family in the Golden State. He wasn't too concerned though. Things like this happened all the time, it was probably no big deal. Only 6 years before, 4 police officers had been killed in a protest in Dallas. Only 2 years before, another police officer had been killed on the scene of a crime a little closer to home.
October 17th, 2018 (12:02 AM Local Time) A Middle School in North Texas
At this point, Michael had his trombone out and was ready for his 5th period Band practice. People where still setting up there instruments when a voice came over the intercom: "We are now entering a hold-in-place drill. Teachers, please keep your students in the classrooms." Some where annoyed mildly by the announcement, others, including Michael, didn't think anything of it. Drills like this where mandatory once-a-month things in the State of Texas.
However, little did anyone know that this was not a drill.
October 17th, 2018 (12:16 PM Local Time) Plano Police Department Headquarters
The officers of Plano PD where in a state of disarray. All on-duty and on-call officers had been summoned to the station. The Chief of Police spoke to the crowd of a few hundred officers packed into the Central Police station.
"Officers, quiet down please. We have an emergency situation. Riots that have developed in Dallas and Arlington are bleeding over county lines. The rioters, we believe, are similar to the rioters in Los Angeles. I have been informed to not approach them."
An officer towards the back of the room raised his hand before being acknowledged, and then he spoke. "If we cannot approach them, what do you wish us to do?"
"Shoot to kill." The Chief of Police stated in a somber tone, sending gasps throughout the room. "We will operate out of East Plano High."
The police filtered out of the station and towards the cities Easternmost high school, realizing that today was not gonna be a good day.
October 17th, 2018 (5:57 PM Local Time) Previously Mentioned Middle School
At this point, everybody knew something was going on. Still in Band class, Michael, not having a smartphone, was reliant on the word of friends to tell him what the crap was going on. It had been said by others previously that riots had formed throughout the Metroplex's key cities, Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, Plano, Irving, Richardson, Grapevine, etc. Being close to Denton, the Middle School had been placed under lockdown. However, that was several hours ago. Something else was definitely off.
The office of the Middle School, and all the schools in the district, where under distress. Outside the school, annoying, anxious, and worried parents had packed there cars into the parking lot and lanes getting out of said lot. They had gathered at the front of the school, unable to get in. However, there was little this Middle School's staff could do. They where taking orders from the Superintendent, who in turn was taking orders from the county judge. Five North Texas counties, Denton, Dallas, Rockwall, Collin, and Tarrant, had been placed in shut down state.
However, an issue had begun to crop up. The school was now dealing with not just parents trying to get there kids out of the school, but students trying to find food. Every crumb of food that had been given seemed to of been eaten. Teachers began reporting complaints en-masse to there superiors. Unable to contain the students any longer and fearing that the students would become disorderly, they where released to there parents. Michael left his trombone in the band hall, not knowing it could be a very long time before he saw it again.

Intermission #1: News Bulletins, WHO Memorandum, French government announcement "The LAPD has reported six cases of homicide in the past 48 hours. Victims have been reported to be mutilated and seen with bite marks. So far, in these incidents, three assailants have been killed when the refused to heed orders by the police. However, some policemen were assaulted in the process of apprehending some uncooperative assailants..."
"On the other hand, similar cases of homicide have been reported in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. It is unknown if these are related to the murders occurring here in California. The CDC are still investigating on the matter."
"Riots have been reported in Istanbul, Turkey and New Dehli, India. The cause of the civil unrest is still unknown..."

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MEMORANDUM __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
To: [CLASSIFIED] From: Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Director-General, World Health Organization
SUBJECT: Management of the Deceased Operations Protocol
Copy Number: [CLASSIFIED] Issued by: World Health Organization Place of Issue: Geneva, Switzerland Date of Issue: October 13, 2018 Integrated Plan: International Disaster Emergency Response Plan
In emergency and disaster management, most efforts are being concentrated on the management of the living victims while very least considerations are given to the deceased to the extent that there are no clear specific tasks and assigned agencies to handle them. The most recent strain of virus afflicting the population serves as an eye opener to the affected governments to give focus and attention to the management of the recently deceased that are infected. [REDACTED]. It is now an accepted reality the management of the infected is a major component of the over-all management of the disaster.
The International Disaster Emergency Response Plant (IDERP) has a critical role in providing standards and guidelines in the proper handling of dead bodies of the infected (identification, transfer, and final disposal), typically ensuring that legal norms are followed, and guaranteeing that the dignity of the infected and their decedent is respected in accordance with their cultural values and religious beliefs. [REDACTED]. (DOH: AO58. s2006).
[REDACTED] In light of still-limited knowledge of an as of yet unidentified strain of virus, the World Health Organization is mandating specific protocol that disregards former IDERP protocol in the proper disposition of remains. This new mode of conduct, to be enacted immediately, detail the disposition of remains in a sanitary manner with cautions to prevent negative impact on the bereaved and the community.
The following guidelines are to be put in place, superseeding all former Management of the Infected protocol:
- In the event of Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) patients, all DNR orders are to be disregarded. It is in the interest of the hospital, hospice, health care provider or caretaker to maintain life at all costs.
- If life saving techniques fail to procure life within 60 seconds (1 minutes) after Time of Expiration, the techniques are to be terminated and patient is to be considered expired. Immediate transfer of the deceased to the morgue is necessary. If morgue is more than fifteen (15) minutes away, the remains are to be removed from the bereaved and restrained by any means necessary.
- In the event that deceased resumes signs of life following the cessation of lifesaving technique, the reanimated remains of the infected are to regarded as a biological hazard.

Chapter 9: We Shall Fight Them In The Streets (Part 1) Early hours of October 17, 2018 (Z-Day)
"The Governor of Alabama proclaimed Martial Law an hour ago, being the last state in the U.S. that declared martial law. More disturbing news came to us from Ottawa where part of the Canadian government would have been stuck in the building of the Parliament..."
"Shut up for two seconds please," exclaimed Dylan to Jules who was reading his smartphone.
The two Frenchmen examined a group of shambling people walking in the street. The shambling people ignored the two. For a moment, it's as if those creatures did not even know they were there.
"These bastards are turning to the sound," said Jules. "Look at this car alarm went off an hour ago. They all rushed right away. I think it may be an advantage. Their eyes look bad, we can run out of the store and join the first emergency post".
"If their sense of smell is defective, it can work but only if this crap virus has destroyed their nose. At least we know that we must avoid bites and scratches, the information is very clear, they say that ...."
A nearby explosion was heard followed by gunshots.
They were not alone.
---- Early hours of October 17, 2018 Near Cedar's Sinai Hospital
Jim pressed his M4A1 on his shoulder. He had recovered it from the body of a National Guard soldier, at least what was left of it.
He cursed this trip to Las Vegas, this fucking plane who had been shunted onto LA after Las Vegas was closed in quarantine. What would it not give to be at home all the way in El Paso.
At least California was not so far from Texas. He smiled thinking about the idiots who should walk 3000 miles to get home. He at least had to find a way out of the city, he would go to the desert and then we would see if these Wendigos continue to pursue him. "GRRRRMM..." the muffled throat of an infected man was heard.
"Holy shit!" exclaimed spite of Jim.
He had fallen on a mass horde of these monsters, which probably came from the burned ruins of Cedars Sinai. In all his time living in Texas, he remembered hearing the monsters or ghosts of Mexican or Latino folkore. He remembered his mama telling his stories of La Lorona, the Chupacabra, and Santa Muerte. Back in the day, those were things the elderly said to their children so they would behave. Jim somehow laughed at the thought of those things that scared him as a kid. Compared to these burnt monsters shuffling towards the military trucks, those ghost stories were nothing.
"Hold on, guys!" a loud, authoritative voice said. "Help me Lieutenant, AHHH–"
A platoon of the National Guard was trying to defend a position before evacuating. Jim, as a former sailor aboard USS Harry S. Truman knew what he had to do finally until the moment the explosion threw him to the ground.

As with all zombie media, the Z-word will be spoken but people will find it silly. The formal term by the WHO would be the Infected or the Afflicted. Some colloquial terms that would be used here would be Zs, zed, zack/zach, the undead, monsters, creatures, walkers, or " those things". The term will also have other variations depending on other regions of the world considering language or customs. For example, in Spain and Latin America, the Infected would be called muertos, in China as the jiang shi, in Japan as the kabane, in the Philippines as the bangkay, in India as the ranshaka, etc.

Chapter 10: Chaos and Confusion October 17, 2018 (9:05 am) Z-Day (9 hours since start)
Mike and I were in this busy shopping district when I saw some people gathering in front of a TV store in which TVs were being displayed. A crowd of 20-30 people congregated on one 24" widescreen TV showing helicopter footage of an apparent accident in the Los Angeles Expressway at midnight.
"ACCIDENT AT FREEWAY, DRIVER ATTACKS PARAMEDIC AND KILLED BY POLICE" The headlines read.
Both of our attention was then fixated on the footage of the man apparently biting into a paramedic's net and spraying arterial blood over the pavement. The crowd then let out gasps of shocks and screams. Then the footage showed the CHP officers beating the man with batons with no effect.
"Holy shit, that guy must be high on PCP!" Mike yelled. A man in the crowd agreed. The footage showed the officers drawing their handguns on the man, ordering him to stop. He did not, and was shot multiple times in the chest where he fell on his knees then he went back up. The crowd of onlookers were terrified. I could say Mike and I were dumbfounded as well.
"Look how much bullets they unloaded to the man!" One guy in the crowd shouted.
"What the f*cking hell!?" I yelled.
"There's no way you could survive that!" A woman hysterically yelled.
"Mate, those look like the Miami Zombie shit from 2012." One guy replied.
Mike and I could not get the thing out of our heads. We decided to leave the area to get some coffee to destress. I really needed to tell my family I'm alright but they're all the way in Cebu. Perhaps I should also contact the Philippine consulate as well.

Uptown Los Angeles 9:45 am
Charles and Gabrielle were stuck in traffic which has seem to gone worse over the past few days. "We'll never make into San Francisco on time." Gabrielle said with a tone of worry in her voice.
"Don't worry honey, I'll drive you to your family safely." Charles said, assuring his girlfriend that all is well. Inside however, Charles was worried too. The news of "PCP attacks" continued on and it did not end despite the authorities' best call. The sound of multiple helicopter rotors above them made them observe. However, these weren't police helicopters. These were UH-60 Blackhawks of the California National Guard.
"Must be a drill," Charles said.
Ahead of them was another a pile up that the CHP and LAPD were clearing and redirecting traffic.
----
Downtown Los Angeles
The LAPD metropolitan division were mobilized to response to an outbreak of "violence" in Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center. The men were told by the commander to arm themselves with assault carbines, submachine guns, and breacher shotguns as well as to body up in full kevlar. The police already knew about the outbreak and kept it under wraps, but now it was falling apart quickly. Despite their best efforts of eradicating initial infected, the tide was just too much. Soon, the National Guard would be there to take over the overextended LAPD.
"Dude, what do you think these things are?" Asked Ray.
"Nothing I've ever seen, but these aren't people anymore. Kinda like zombies if you ask me," Francis replied.
The use of the Z-word was enough to send shivers down every SWAT member's spine.
"Mate, I don't believe that zombie bullshit either, but this really looks like those Walking Dead or Resident Evil films," Replied Johnson. "And isn't it strange, we were told to 'eliminate them with extreme prejudice?'" Francis nodded.
He felt the exhaustion of being deployed back and forth. First gang wars, then rioters, then the Infected.
A few minutes later, the SWAT van dropped them off at the hospital. The police and EMS were already there, evacuating patients and non-essential staff outside the complex. A barricade was set while people were carefully screened by K-9 units. Those with gruesome wounds like bite marks were restrained in another tent while doctors and nurses struggled to keep life support. Patients who did not suffer such injury were placed in another tent. Francis saw several body bags next to the tent, meaning the Infected were properly terminated.
"Alright, men. Stand in attention for debrief." The Commander Miller said.
"Our mission today is to clear the hospital of Infected. Your orders are simple, you tell them to stop or you will shoot. And if they do not stop, then they are Infected. You shoot them in the head. We will go in a minute, any questions?"
"Sir, with all due respects, but are these things were dealing that we have been kept silent are really zombies?" Asked one young member of the SWAT, someone named Lawrence.
"Looks like it. There's nothing else we can describe them. Now let's move out."
All the SWAT men trained their weapons to the front as they entered the hospital lobby. The lobby was in carnage with various objects lay in the front. But there was no sign of blood. They then moved further inner, where sounds of screams and moaning could be heard. Everyone was on alert. As Miller opened the the door to the Emergency Room, Francis got to see how these things look in the flesh. One of them was a patient feasting on the remains of a nurse. Aiming his HK416 and pointing the Surefire flashlight and PEQ laser unit, the patient faced the SWAT officer with flesh and blood dripping on his mouth.
"Stoop or I'll shoot!" Francis yelled.
The patient continued to strive forward. Francis never any of these things moving, as the time they entered the crime scene they were already dispatched by the patrolmen. This one however continued moving. "Shoot him!" yelled Ray.
Reluctantly, Francis shot the patient in the leg. He had never shot an unarmed person in his life. The bullet penetrated the lower leg which should have incapacitated the patient. However, it continued moving undeterred.
"They really are real," Francis said.
He then adjusted his HK416 to the head, firing one shot which pierced through the patient's skull. The Infected fell down dead. However, more infected started appearing on the other end of the hallway.
"Send them to Hell!" yelled Miller.
The entire hall was then filled with controlled single or burst fire coming from the assault carbines, submachine guns, and shotguns of the SWAT Team. The hallway was then littered with dead bodies and spent bullet casings while blood and bullet holes lined the walls around it.
----
Uptown Los Angeles 10:15 am
Charles was relieved the traffic temporarily subsided. With the roads clear, he was able to move a bit until something popped out in front of his car. A man apparently drunk or high was shambling in the middle of the road. This caused Charles to swerve, nearly hitting the man and crashing into a lamppost. His car was totaled. Great, now I can't bring my girlfriend to her family. He cursed. A crowd of people began to form, watching the commotion unfold.
"Fucker!" He yelled under his breathe. "Gabrielle, stay in the car."
He told his girlfriend. Going out, he then confronted the man.
"Hey, watch where you are going buddy. Look what you made me do, you made me crash my car!" Charles told the man, who was not even listening. "
Hey, I'm talking to you buddy."
The man then turned to face Charles, his white milky eyes and grey skin starring at him. He then outstretched his arms in an effort to grab Charles.
"Charlie dear, get away from him!" Gabrielle shouted.
Instead, Charles did not listen. He punched the man straight in the face, causing the man to stumble a few steps but almost quick continued on moving towards him. Then, Charles held the man in chokehold.
"Next time you do this shit, I'm going to kill you myself."
However, the man simply turned his head and with a big gape, sank his teeth on Charles' upper arm near the shoulder. Blood immediately went out , causing Charles to scream. At this time, the people were running away from the scene. Gabrielle screamed hysterically, begging for help. Her instincts acting, she then searched for a weapon in the glovebox. She found a screwdriver then stabbed the man on the body. It apparently had no effect. The man then turned its attention towards her, arms outstrech in an effort to grab the girl. As the man fell on Gabrielle on the road, she acted instinct and stabbed the man in from the ear down to the brain, twisting the blade like a screwdriver at it reached the inside of the skull. The man fell down dead on top of her.
Standing up, Gabrielle pushed the dead body of away from her and went to the aid of her boyfriend. The crowd of panicked people only grew larger. Several ran by, ignoring them to get away from a threat that must have been so terrifying that mass hysteria resulted.
"Oh God," Gabrielle said. "I...I killed him..."
Charles fell on the ground, clutching his wound.
"Oh my God Charles, we got to get you to the hospital."
The girl then yelled for help, telling the onlookers to call 911. However, everyone was already running away from the scene. Hands shaking, Gabrielle then took out her phone to dial 911, only to find out the emergency numbers were flooded. Fear sank in her heart.
"It was just normal a few hours ago..." She said as emotion overtook her, causing her to cry on the street. Several onlookers simply ran away and did not offer their help. Still holding on to Charles, Gabrielle then begged any of the crowd to help. The first five people she held on too just shrugged her off. She managed to grab hold of the arms of one man nearly the same age as her clad in semi-tactical gear, a tactical backpack and armed with a Glock pistol. The man had a companion also similarly clad, equipped, and armed with an M1911 pistol.
"Hey, please help us. My boyfriend has been attacked. Please, I beg you." She cried out, tears streaming down her face.
The guy she held on to looked down at her. And in a few milliseconds, they made eye contact. Each looked so familiar then she realized, she was starring right up at her former co-applicant during her time at the mountaineering group roughly two years ago when she was undergraduate. The young man also realized who he was looking at. Both were equally dumbfounded and astonished how they found each other here in Los Angeles at a time like this. The odds were very slim yet they were there. So many questions to ask on how they crossed paths of all times and places, still there was an emergency at hand.
"Holy fuck!" The man shouted. "Gabby, is that you?"
"Gill?"

Chapter 11: We Shall Fight Them In The Streets (Part 2) October 17 ,2018, 9:30 AM (Z-Day) Cedars Sinai Area
The night and the day of October 16 had not been as calm as the previous days. The constant flight of the helicopters, the sound of the sirens and the glare of the gigantic fires had held the two French in respect, forcing them to take refuge on the shopping center. The rations and bottles of water collected in the stores plundered would allow them to last for days. It was not necessary to count on the help as Cedars Sinai hospital center having fallen prey to shooting then a fire. The two friends could have continued to get food and water in the mall but the looting and what people now called the Infected had begun to swarm in the corner, finally recovering the two SWAT assault rifles had been a good idea.
But the ammunition was in small numbers and the prospect of taking refuge in a magazine prey to looting and the incessant attacks of these things did not please Jules or Dylan, both had seen Georges Romero's classics Zombie. A magazine at the center of a world megalopolis overwhelmed by what looked like a zombie apocalypse were the worst place. The hope of being rescued had been fed late in the evening by the unexpected arrival of a National Guard large UH-60 Helicopter but it had headed for the sea. The situation was getting worse in hours and hours in the city where explosions and shootings were commonplace. The city of LA was in the process of dying, and according to the information obtained by the phones of two friends, were the whole of the world that were sinking into chaos, they had the feeling of being spectators of the apocalypse.
---- "Vanguard 1, hold your position. Waiting for reinforcements, over."
There are shows that you would not want to see, this one was part of it. A National Guard column backed by SWAT and LAPD policemen was desperate to retreat to Beverly Boulevard but was encircled by the Infected, who were coming from all over the place. The deafening roar of Browning machine guns and the popping sound automatic weapons rang out, going with the bellowing of the Infected horde. Many fell down, but the flow still continued like a water of a dam that has busted open.
Jim was sounded by the explosion of a car. He had been hauled safely by the National Guardsmen. He was just starting to emerge near a Humvee. A few frightened civilians trying to cross the street, coming face to face with the horde. It was a fatal error. The screams of land and pain are more or less covered by the detonations but it is enough to freeze the blood of the guardsmen.
"Holy fuck," shouted Jim, who had just regained consciousness. The muertos are still moving forward, the curdled blood and the torn limbs accumulate in the street, making the air go sticky and stinky.
"No, no," yelled a panicked national guardsman, who dropped his gun and tried to run away, before being shot by an officer.
"No retreat, we must hold this position at all costs, so that the Brea and Melrose refugee convoy can join Charlie."
Jim picked up the carbine from the National Guard and took the position, "You'll need everyone then."
---- Jules and Dylan saw the military convoy very well trying to defend their position.
It was now or never.
They urgently collected their few belongings and rushed down the stairs to join the ground floor, forgetting the horde that had took control of the sector.
Too late...
"Grrrrahhh" a horrible mooing sounded. "We have to run! They are behind us!" Dylan shouted.
They have to run, no choice.
"Quick the emergency door!"
"Oh putain!" exclaims Jules in French.
This one was blocked by some Infected. Uf they were stopping now, the horde that had just entered the store's ruins will catch them.
"We're going through," Dylan grabbed the arm of one of the Infected ones who blocked the door, and propelled him into the window of a fashion magazine.
Jules kicked his leg off. Another zombie, tearing out a cry of agony.
The way was free, well, that's what they thought...

Well that last bit doesn't sound well for the two guys.
A couple of questions please,
Is this spell-checker error for something else, like maze or mall?
Similarly a bit further down Do you mean something like deafened or surprised?
Well your re-connected with the girl you fancied, albeit in a tragic way but it sounds from that last bit like we're going to lose a couple of the other viewpoint characters.
