Afterword(Here's some soundtrack that fits the mood)
Afterword
After almost two years of writing this story, I finally finished it. It was challenging to write since I began writing this in 2018. There were many times I felt lazy and unmotivated to write but your support encouraged me to continue and write on. Needless to say, I'm a proud of how Through Rough Times went. This is the first time I wrote a novel here with multiple chapters. I would like to thank everyone for supporting this. Years of hardwork and revision finally paying off.
As stated twice before, one of my greatest fears is being stranded in foreign soil when a crisis occurs. When a foreigner is stuck in another country, it would present a crap load of problems. Language barriers, currency, who and where to ask help, and many many more. I got this idea and then turned it into a story.
The following are the references used in the story:
- No Escape (2015) - A foreign family stuck in a Southeast Asian country when a civil war erupts. The main inspiration of this story.
- Dead Island (2011) - Foreigners stuck in a tropical island in Papua New Guinea in a middle of a zombie outbreak. Another inspiration.
- Resident Evil: Outbreak (2003) and Outbreak File #2 (2004): Random survivors of different backgrounds trying to escape a doomed city.
- Fear the Walking Dead (2015-present): Southern California setting and the breakdown of society. Operation Cobalt is the name of the firebombing operation.
- Highschool of the Dead (2006-2013): The outbreak is given the name the "Killer Pandemic" and the fact despite being slow zombies, the outbreak unexplainably occurs overnight.
- World War Z (2006) - Breakdown of society and initial military failures before the major offensive.
- Independence Day (1996) - Political rivalries are put aside to fight a greater foe in the face of extinction.
- First Contact War: 2021 (Fanfiction of Mass Effect by
kspence92) - similar premise wherein the human race has to put aside political rivalries in the face of extinction.
- The House of the Dead 2 (1998) - Miscellaneous references
- The Day After (1983) - Miscellaneous references
Special thanks to
