Prologue:
A lot of people don't understand us Manchurians. They are lumped together with Chinese, and even Manchuria still has people who identify as Chinese, including me. For one, Western media and academia apply too much stereotypes about Manchus being warlike in nature, as what we have seen in North Korea, the interventions in some African states, and so on. True, their pop culture may be behind that of Japan, Korea, and even China, but their pop culture is what helped Russia, Eastern Europe, and the CIS fill their dreary lives during and after communism, with their games, animated series, and so on, and now in the West the Manchurians are coming in droves too. They also suffer from censorship, but Manchus can see through the hypocrisy of Western critics in what should be censored. Manchuria has been called the "silent next superpower" for good reasons. First, they are forced to do so because the People's Republic never fully accepted their independence, and so their survival is at stake. But they rarely advertise their facts beyond Youtube videos of their military parades. Fortunately, they have the resources, the industry, and most importantly, the people willing to defend what they call their only home. Critics claim that Manchurians are racist, but in reality, they are diverse, relatively. The Manchu language is the most successful project for language revival in history, even more than Hebrew and Irish Gaelic, even though they had to ditch their old vertical script in favor of a Russian-based alphabet, similar to what Mongolia did during the communist era. While they used totalitarian methods to do so, this is a product of their history as a communist state. Even though they shook off communism and adopted Western capitalist systems, they are more closer to their kin in Korea and Japan. They are actually among the most literate people in the world; 99.1 % in fact. Manchurians were said to be one of the highest concentration of IQs higher than 100; and yet, the Manchus prefer not to advertise their achievements that much. That's not to say they aren't proud, they feel that they don't have to. Yes, they have suffered with other countries with this Coronavirus pandemic, but they managed to control it; in fact, the wearing of face masks as a quarantine measure was first implemented during an outbreak of the bubonic plague in Manchuria-in the 1910s. And Manchuria's pharmaceuticals developed three versions of the COVID vaccine, and they are distributing it like hotcakes throughout the Third World, and they are superior to those from China and Russia yet at the same price as their vaccine.
And yet the public only see that they never left their legacy as a former Communist state, or worse, as the former Japanese puppet state. Sure, many Manchus despise the vote-rigging, the corruption, and the theatrics of their politicians. But as they say, they are leagues better than their neighbor south of the Great Wall, in the terms of freedom they enjoy.
Maybe it's time to see Manchus as they are? Just like us?
