Had trouble accessing the site earlier today around 1030AM - European time. Was unable to go to the log-in page. Could acces the open to all site. Tried just now and was able to log-in. Ditto with me about 9:15 GMT time this morning. Also OK now so hopefully just a glitch.
Seems it was a DDoS issue, the problem has been resolved.

Seems a angry bear had stolen the domain name and the forum was off line for a bit, but the bear has been captured and forum is back online.

Just want to say, the alternate-timelines.com domain name is secured until at least 2027 with the current lease about to end in 2024, i had decided to go for 3 years instead of 1 year, just in case.

You are a wise man.
Even if you didn't tell me you were going to be within 40 miles of my location while on your sojourn earlier this year.

Going to post it here and see what members of the forum think about this. As you know AI generated stuff can happen, i created a thread to see how it could write TLs: Official ChatGPT/Bing AI Thread. So my question is, should we ban AI created TLs, maps and flags as it would not be fair to those who work so hard to create material without outside help.

Wait, how do you even create an AI generated TL though? Maps and flags, I can understand that. Either way, would AI-assisted work be considered a kind of plagiarism?

The AI Map Generator comes into my tough regarding maps. And Plagiarism would be possible to put it in.

Hadn't really thought it through yesterday when first posted but yes plagiarism would be the word as it crawl the net to obtain the information - i'd guess it isn't sofisticated enough to draw own conclusions and defend such.

“11. Content produced by generative AI, such as ChatGPT, is generally not allowed. Exceptions will be made for off-topic content, such as quoted text from other web sites, and image threads. Do not use generative AI to create alternate history.”
That would seem to be a sensible rule, as generative AI does tend to harvest online text without attribution, making it effective plagiarism. This is not just the case on AH.com, but in many academic and professional settings. Should a new rule to that effect be put in place, it would be appropriate.
The AH wording is a bit clumsy, with a better version being perhaps “AI produced content, both from generative AI such as ChatGPT and any subsequent developments, applications or programs, is not allowed in Alternate History Discussion under any circumstances. Some content may be allowed in Off Topic, including but not limited to images or videos in relevant threads, on a case by case basis. If in doubt, please PM a mod for clarification.”
