January 6th, 2021, a day which would live in infamy. Vice President Mike Pence (R) was presiding over a joint session of Congress. Not far from the Capitol building, President Donald Trump (R) was holding a rally. The crowd became rambunctious. Armed with various firearms and rallied up by the President, armed rioters marched from the Washington Monument to the Capitol building. The DC Metropolitan police were overwhelmed. The protestors entered the Capitol building. The overwhelmed police where unable to stop the mob from entering the House and Senate chambers, where a dispute over the election results from the state of Arizona was being settled. Senator James Lankford was mid-way through a speech when the protestors entered. Quickly, the protestors became militant. A leader among the crowd set up a broadcast, threatening the execution of several Democratic Party leaders because of there involvement in pedophilic circles, claims originating from the QAnon conspiracy theory. Chaos broke out nationally. Trump supporters in Minnesota entered the statehouse, capturing the Minnesota State Legislature. Governor Gavin Newsom (D) was kidnapped in California.

Democrats began to fight back on January 7th as the Second American Civil War began. Republican forces in Georgia soon took the Democrats base of power in Atlanta. Republicans soon took rural Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Foreign nations soon began to intervene. The United Kingdom, European Union, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand joined in a UN peacekeeping expedition, taking control of Alaska and Hawaii. China openly backed and started arming Democrats, Russia did the same for the Republicans. A proxy war between Russia and China was being fought on US soil.

Also I can't see that level of foreign involvement, especially not by the democratic powers. They would seek to mediate and also minimise the disruption as the civil war continued to spread. Occupying Hawaii and Alaska isn't on the cards at all, especially since the former is a huge naval base. Also suspect that neither Putin or Xi would intervene openly as it would be too damaging for them. They would seek to gain advantage elsewhere, such as further pressure in the S China sea, possibly even an attack on Taiwan and by Russia in the Baltic. You might even have Kim doing something stupid and attacking S Korea, possibly using nukes in the process.
Also I would expect most of the US military to remain true to their oaths and quickly stamp out the coup attempt, quite possibly with extreme prejudice. Suspect very few would support a clearly illegal attempt to overthrow democracy and the rule of law. The extremists would fight but quickly find that against a profession military, as opposed to unarmed civilians their been attacking so far.
I suspect that even Trump wouldn't be dumb enough to make such a move or that if he did people in his government would sit on it quickly, either by trying to get the secret service if necessary to block it by force or by massed resignations and public rejection of his action.

Especially since with the US paralysised either their representative in the UN would be vetoing anything like that or if incapable for any reason you would have Britain and France trying to counter Russia and China which would seek to gain advantage of such a situation. Furthermore since the UN HQ is in New York their probably busy relocated outside a war zone.

The hard liners who want Trump at any cost would already be committed but in the middle of what's a civil war Biden will be seeking to gain as much support as possible. You might get some alienated by more black propaganda from the rebels who make false claims about Biden's plans but again most people likely to be mislead by such will already be in the rebel camp.

Forst, the UN HQ has for the time being been relocated in Montreal but will get a more permanent home soon. And although yes, the farest to the Right Republicans do alienate some, and the far left in the Democratic Party proposed a Democratic Socalist agenda ITTL and this lead to much alienation. As to the UN, it’s more like in the Korean War,. The coalition is lead by Canada (purely based off of geography), with most of Western Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand joining in the coalition. It’s still all a massive crisis though, and a wreck across international lines. |
