I remember clearly what I did last year on this day. I was in Bangkok, Thailand with my family. It was our last day and our first time celebrating New Year's Eve outside the Philippines. From the span of three days, we visited the Wat Arun, Wat Suthat, Ayutthaya, Chao Praya River Cruise, and the Icon Siam. I was disappointed that we could not see the iconic fireworks display in Icon Siam as we had to go back to Manila the next day.
So by sunset, we just took out some KFC and ate in the room. I was watching BBC News on TV. There was a report that said "Strange pneumonia-like disease reported in Wuhan". Just like everyone else, we did not think it was serious and we just hoped it would not spread.
That night, we celebrate New Year's Eve in the pool deck with a handful of foreign nationals from South Africa and Australia. Even made new friends. A cute Australian girl gave me New Year's hug. So we were just there talking, bonding, and welcoming the first year of the new decade with so much hope. I got a few of their socials and we somehow still keep in touch to this day.
Woke up early in the morning as we had a flight to catch. 2020 started out slow then came the first bad news: Australian wildfires and the Iran-US tensions.
And then on January 7, 2020, that's when COVID-19 was first identified.
From there on, the rest is history.
Time flies...

Each year in the Netherlands there is the Top 2000, an annual marathon radio program, that plays the 2,000 most popular songs of all time. The show runs 24 hours a day, starting Christmas and ending on New Year's Eve. This year the Top 5 are: 1. Danny Vera "Roller Coaster" 2. Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" 3. Eagles "Hotel California"4. Billy Joel "Piano Man" 5. Led Zeppelin "Stairway to Heaven" |

What did you guys do in 2020 before and after the pandemic?
- Early months, I was able to start my masters thesis and went on rock climbing with some friends.
- Summer got cancelled unfortunately.
- I turned 24 on September 4. I got so much greetings from my friends and family members online.
- On October 14, well I opened up to someone I had feelings for three years.
- Even with the quarantine, Christmas and New Year was a blast.

I watched Times Square with my local science fiction society.
It was incredibly satisfying to watch 2020 drop the ball one last time.
