Points of divergence: Charles of Austria, second son of Philip III of Spain, marries and has descendants, and Charles II of Spain wins the Portuguese Restoration War.
In 1808, the House of Austria are removed from the Spanish throne and Dom Charles of Austria, who at the time was viceroy and governor of Portugal, managed to flee to Brazil together with his wife, Maria Augusta of Saxony, and not accepting to be subject to Joseph Bonaparte, declares the war of independence of Brazil, and in 1809, meets with the governors of the royal captaincies in Salvador and there is proclaimed and sworn as Emperor of Brazil, in the Primatial Cathedral Basilica of the Transfiguration of Our Lord.
In 1812, Dom Charles I granted the Fundamental Laws and Ordinances of the Empire of Brazil, with 4 powers, the Executive, Moderator, Legislative and Judiciary, with the monarch holding the first 3 powers, thus governing the nation, balancing the powers and changing the law when necessary. Also recognized and established 4 social estates, in degree of descendant importance, The Clergy, Nobility, Bourgeoisie and the Plebs, and also defined Nhengatu (former language of contact between indigenous and Portuguese) and Portuguese as the co-official languages of the empire.
Dom Charles established basic institutions for the country, encouraged and granted credits for the development of industrial areas, factories, practiced protectionism, It granted nobility titles to entrepreneurs who used wage labor instead of slave labor, gave a range of rights and assistance to slaves, such as religious assistance, prohibition of any mistreatment of slaves, minimum conditions for work, the right to full rest on Sundays and religious holidays, and others. Having the right of patronage, he focused greatly on increasing the influence of the Catholic Church in society, and established the Mandatory Tithing, 10% of all the subject's patrimony should go directly to the local church each month.
Charles I signed the Edict of Prohibition, which prohibited the disclosure, support or teaching of liberalism, democracy, Presidentialism, egalitarianism and Freemasonry.
As a way to compensate the great suffering of the slaves he asked the Pope, that Our Lady of the Conception Appeared be the Patroness of Brazil and that Saint Elesbaan of Ethiopia be the Co-Patron. He expanded the Brazilian army, gave nobility titles to the generals, colonels and dressed in military clothing, which was repeated by her successors.
He significantly increased the Brazilian territory during the war of Brazilian Conquest of the Banda Oriental, where he defeated the League of Free Peoples and annexed Uruguay. Dom Charles I died in 1825, the year he had finished invading Chiquitos and Moxos, he was buried in a beautiful and large sarcophagus, in the Church and Convent of Saint Francis, in Salvador.

He significantly increased the Brazilian territory during the war against artillery, I assume this has to be Argentina.

Hello, I'm sorry, I am Brazilian and I originally wrote this text in Portuguese, and the translator that I put to translate it into English translated it into artillery, but now that I see that this war is known in English as Portuguese conquest of the Banda Oriental, which in this case would be Brazilian Conquest of the Banda Oriental.

The Constitution also established 4 social estates, in degree of descendant importance, The Clergy, Nobility, Bourgeoisie and the Plebs, and also defined Nhengatu (former language of contact between indigenous and Portuguese) as the official language of the empire. The title of the emperor, which was defined in the constitution and which displeased the most nationalists, was: "His Imperial Majesty, Dom Charles I, By the Grace of God, Emperor of Brazil, Archduke and Imperial Prince of Austria, Royal Prince of Hungary, Bohemia and Infante of Spain. Sovereign and Grand Master of the Order of Behemote, of the Order of All Saints, of the Order of Dom Charles I, of the Order of the Good Birth, of the Order of the Baldachin and Sovereign of the Order of Feminine Chastity." Charles I of Brazil changed the name of the Imperial family to d'Austria-Brazil( d'Áustria-Brasil, in Nhengatu and portuguese), and then began to establish basic institutions for the country, encouraged and granted credits for the development of industrial areas, factories, practiced protectionism, It granted nobility titles to entrepreneurs who used wage labor instead of slave labor, gave a range of rights and assistance to slaves, such as religious assistance, prohibition of any mistreatment of slaves, minimum conditions for work, the right to full rest on Sundays and religious holidays, and others. Interesting idea but could I clarify a couple of points please? a) Do you mean Portugal stays united with Spain under the Hapsburg dynasty until 1808? If so who rules Spain after Napoleon's defeat - assuming this still occurs? Is Portugal still part of a Spanish Hapsburg state? What happens to its colonies in Africa and Asia? It sounds like there's a clear break between Brazil and Iberia after the war, is that correct.
b) Is this Duke Charles the equivalent of OTL Archduke Charles the general who was their most formidable general until 1809?
It sounds like we're going to have a somewhat larger and more successful Brazil than OTL which could be interesting. Possibly also an earlier ending to slavery and the imperial dynasty lasting longer. Looking forward to seeing how thinks develop.
Anyway welcome to the board.

Hello, thank you for the doubts a) After Charles II's victory over Portugal, the Portuguese crown and all its lands and colonies are definitively united with the Spanish crown, that is, it becomes part of Spain, through personal union, and after the fall of Joseph Bonaparte, the Habsburgs are restored to the Spanish throne (which includes Portugal), just as they happen to the bourbons in the real timeline, and the colonies and vassal states in Africa and Asia would remain under Spanish rule, but until they were restored in 1813, Brazil had already won the War of Independence in 1812, and Charles I would not submit again to his brother and return Brazil to Spain. b) no, in that timeline, the Infant Charles, son of Philip III of Spain and Margaret of Austria, marries and has descendants, and one of these will occupy the Spanish throne when Charles II of Spain dies, and Charles I of Brazil and the Spanish royal family after Charles II of Spain descended from Infant Charles. I will post the continuation today.

One small point on language. Their questions or queries not doubts. The latter is more "I think this is wrong" rather than "what do you mean here" if that makes sense and helps. [As a confirmed monologuist, who has enough trouble with my own language kudos to you for managing in a foreign one.]

After the death of Charles I, Prince Dom Philip takes the throne as Philip I in 1825 and continues the war in Uruguay. And after Simón Bolívar promised not to intervene in the war, Dom Philip moved the troops of Chiquitos and Moxos and directed them to Buenos Aires, and although Uruguay was not as attractive to the agricultural sector, it was attractive to the industrial sector that was growing in the country, and was seen as a new industrial zone to be used. In 1828 the war ended and Uruguay remained Brazilian, and one of the decisive factors for the Brazilian victory was the First Edict of Prohibition( At the time signed only as Edict of Prohibition), signed in 1821 by Charles I, which prohibited the use of Spanish throughout Brazil, and the Edict of Expulsion and Immigration, which was also signed by Dom Charles I, in 1823, which expelled all military, intellectuals, and other influential people of Hispanic origin from Uruguay, except clerics, and requested the immigration of Brazilian inhabitants to Uruguay, in exchange for land and opportunities to open and expand industries and other companies. During the war, Brazil demonstrated internationally the power of its army, which would increase and modernize from military academies and good wages. Two years later, the Palatine Complex of Salvador that began to be built in 1815 had been completed and attracted many eyes, both inside and outside Brazil. The complex is located very close to the Cathedral of Salvador, It's Neoclassical style, has 80 ha, contains 4 large gates, 1000 buildings, 28 050 rooms, circular format, walls with railings similar in height and thickness to the palace of versailles, Tympanum with the coat of arms of the Imperial house, Gardens, Sculptures, Statues, Monuments, ministerial buildings, military, for leisure (such as horse riding and fencing), College, School and University, the Imperial Mausoleum, buildings of the honorary orders of chivalry, establishments for goldsmithery and jewelry, dormitories for employees who worked outside the palaces and military, and in the midst of all this, 3 large palaces, arranged in a triangular way, one facing the other, one was the Emperor's Palace, another was the Legislative Power Palace, and another was the palace of the judiciary. Like his father, Dom Philip had great contempt for slavery and in 1835 there was the malê revolt, where 600 Hausa revolted, Dom Philip, moved by the suffering and sadness of the Malê, organized a meeting with Licutan and other leaders of the revolt, and signed the Commitment of Salvador, where the Emperor committed himself to abolish slavery in 5 years and to allow other religions in the empire. Days later, Dom Philip signed the Edict of Tolerance, where he allowed slaves and Indigenous to exercise their religions without being harassed or punished, and exempted them from taxes directed to the Catholic Church, but the "civilized" Indigenous, whites and free blacks were still obliged to be Catholics. In 1836 Dom Philip signed the Edict of Acceptance, where he gave fundamental rights to people of lower social classes. And in 1840, moved by the Papal Bull In Supremo Apostolatus, Felipe signed the Edict of Abolition, Humanization, Dignification and Indemnification, which abolishes slavery in a definitive way and also gives fundamental rights to all slaves, such as the right to freedom, education, leisure, a salary, housing, to be respected and the right to property. The Edict also ordered the distribution of all possessions and money of the former slave owners to the ex-slaves, as a form of indemnity. Many senators and deputies praised him for the wise decision, great businessmen thanked him for the new consumer public, archbishops and bishops came from all over Brazil to congratulate him, and he received the Golden Rose from the Pope Gregory XVI. Journalists and thinkers made very favorable comments about Philip, But it didn't take long for an anti-abolitionist revolt to emerge led by the former landowners and former slave owners, which eventually resulted in the War of the Retrogrades, but with the massive and voluntary entry of blacks into the army, the revolt was defeated in a few years. But during an army parade in celebration of the victory, where Philip I was waving to the people inside his chariot, a man, who was a slave owner, named José de Souza, shot at Philip, and the shot ended up hitting his head, and so Dom Philip died in 1844, without male heirs, which caused Joanna d'Austria-Brazil, the eldest daughter of Philip I and Maria Maximiliana of Austria, to take the throne. Like that you write a TL, but it is not the forum policy to create for every update a new thread. As such, one thread for one TL, as this TL seems to be part of the first, i will merge them together.

Definitely no need for apologies. As I say your doing a damned sight better than I would be going the other way. Just letting you know so you can correct the online translation in that point.

I would say the key thing with the DE universe is that its so huge and complex that if you tried to put it all in one thread then it would be even more difficult for either Simon, or for us as readers, to keep track of everything. Especially since he's got a number of different stories ongoing, occurring at different times and locations. As such I can see it being necessary for it to have multiple threads for the primary story lines. If your universe gets similarly complex there would be an argument for it but I don't think I've seen anything like DE is size and complexity on any AH site I've been on.
