I posted this in the SyFy channel thread because it looks like a mockbuster. I remember when this trailer was first released, Filipino netizens slammed it for being a blatant copy of Thor.

I won't lie, this is worse than being a rip off of Thor. Out of all fantasy Filipino shows, why did they have to base itself on Thor when you could have shows that feature actual pre-Hispanic deities like Bathala? Pre-Hispanic period is a gold mine for Filipino TV shows, and they ignore that stuff.

It was even more hilarious when GMA-7 tried to say Norse mythology isn't copyrighted so while they are correct VM operated on legal grounds, one cannot also discount that several scenes from the trailer were blatant copy-and-paste. Marvel Philippines probably did not file a protest because they would not go down the level VM when Marvel itself is filthy reach from the Avengers universe. Ang Panday is actually great. Props to the author for its originality. I also remember back then in 2005 GMA had Enkantadya but I didn't really watch it.

I distinctly remember kyuzoaoi at Deviantart giving his biggest criticism about Filipino telenovella shows as being overly moralistic, poor girl goes from rags to riches and something about how in some shows, Spanish friars are fair game for negative portrayal, but Filipino priests and nuns are always depicted as saintly. I could be wrong though.

I could be wrong though. Most Fiipino TV shows are cliche of that. Always implies typical family feuds, love triangles, and cringe shit. kyuzoaoi is correct. Most Filipino TV show writers run out of ideas. The same goes for those portraying priest and nun as saintly. Though for the latter, we did see an evil nun being used in horror such as Shake, Rattle, and Roll, Clarita, Maledicto, and Eerie.

Also adding to the mix, lost love child, as Dahil May Isang Ikaw would demonstrate.

I actually watched it on DVD that my mom borrowed from the library. Wow. It's been so long since I last heard of "borrowing" a DVD. Here in the Philippines, we had Video City back then. Back then in 2002, a video rental store opened near my house. My dad I rented some B-movies there, particularly Roger Corman's Carnosaur. These were the days before Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ were in everyone's home, computers, TVs, and smart devices. Usually video rental stores would lose to those that sell pirated/bootleg DVDs in the street. By the 2010s when torrent became famous, pirated DVDs began losing to illegally downloaded films on the internet.

I would not be surprised if there is a show in the Philippines that portrays the priests and nuns in a bad light that would run afoul of the CBCP critics. Kinda explains why priests and nuns are always depicted as saintly.
