COMING SOON How a traumatic event changed the Republic of Korea forever & foreign policy ramifications
Korean President Chun Doo-hwan was meeting with senior members of his cabinet including the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces at Cheong Wa Dae earlier in the afternoon of December 9th, 1986. Soon afterwards, Chun stepped into the Presidential jet & was flying to Busan, where he was scheduled to address business leaders at the Hotel Marriott.
Somewhere in Busan, the Secret Task Force (who connived with NK extremists in the Rangoon Incident on October 9th, 1983, where the first attempt on the authoritarian strongman's life failed but resulted in several casualties) were determined to see to it that Chun must NOT leave Busan alive.....
What would happen next would have major implications for the Republic of Korea on both national & international grounds plus many loyalists of Chun eager to tighten their grip on keeping the dictatorship in place for the foreseeable future......
This TL will be consisted of eyewitness accounts, personal diaries of those on what they were doing on that day. I've got a sketch outlined helping guide me. Enjoy!

Chapter 1: President Chun
7:30 PM KST, Tuesday, December 9th, 1986
Somewhere in the outskirts of Busan, Korea
It was Tuesday, December 9th, 1986. Korean President Chun Doo-hwan had just finished a briefing & overseeing joint military exercises between the US Forces Korea & Republic of Korea Armed Forces earlier in the day. After constant meetings with several members of the Diplomatic Corps at Cheong Wa Dae during one of the public receptions, Chun hoped on board of the Presidential Helicopter flying over to the nearest airport in Suburban Seoul, then after departure ceremonies, Chun got into Korean Air (Korean version of Air Force One, named Code One) & flew to Busan where he was scheduled to attend a business banquet with business leaders of Busan & the Busan Metropolitan area, etc.,
Arriving at Gimhae International Airport in Busan at 7:30 PM KST, Chun stepped out of Code One, saluted the ROK Army soldiers & meet with the welcoming dignitaries, who were on the tarmac. Then after getting inside the limousine, it was time for the route toward the Hotel Marriott with scheduled arrival at 8:45 PM. Meanwhile across town, members of the Secret Task Force were waiting on the secluded hillside where they anticipate seeing the presidential motorcade going past the hillside section of the outskirts of Busan.

The Incident that instigated chaos
8:00 PM KST, Tuesday, December 9th, 1986
Somewhere in the outskirts of Busan, Korea
The aftermath of the violent ambush the STF unleashed
on the motorcade of Korean President Chun Doo-hwan
Seeing the motorcade traveling at a slow pace along the outskirts of Busan, the Secret Task Force saw their chance. It was their opportunity to NOT let Chun escape this time "He's right in our crosshairs. Time to up the ante" Keisha Tariahaski smirked as she was hiding along the bushes as she ranted "Slow down God damn it!" as one of the decoy vehicles was somewhat distracting Keisha because of the way the Korean Presidential Security Service vehicles looked alike. Keisha calmly cocked her sniper, aimed at one of the vehicles (she noticed the curtains in the backseat of one of the vehicles because it looked like President Chun was in the backseat) & opened fire: BANG, BANG, BANG.
The glass shattered on the left side of the vehicle hitting President Chun (who was reading the local newpspaper), who growled in pain "ARGH!" then Keisha fired her sniper again: BANG, BANG, BANG, causing the vehicle to come to a stop, which led several of Chun's security detail to try to fire back at the unknown assailants. Once that occurred, another group of Secret Task Force backup team members assisted Keisha & her group to launch one of the biggest bloodiest battles. It was 56 shots being fired (snipers, machine guns, handguns, shotguns, etc.,). Meanwhile in one of the vehicles, Chun was hit in the left side of his hip, shoulder & thigh which caused him to fall on the floor of the backseat as he grabbed one of the pistols hidden in one of those secret compartments "Who the fuck tried to shoot me ? I am the President of the Republic of Korea" Chun strongly snapped.
As the security detail from the Korean Presidential Security Service were under attack & overwhelmed: several motorcyclists from the Busan Metropolitan Police Department (six of them) were also attempting to fire back at the assailants (who were dressed in all black camouflage) soon opened fire on all of them, killing them instantly. The gunfire had been ongoing for more than 39+ minutes & while one of the Korean Presidential Security Service agents, special agent Lee Hueng-Kuo (who served in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps), who was driving President Chun, then grabbed his machine gun & did the best he could to fire back at the assailants, hitting five of them before eventually being fatally wounded when Daniela Imperial (another member of the Secret Task Force) shot Lee from behind....
The time was 8:56 PM KST & Daniela, Keisha & eighteen other STF members surrounded the damaged vehicle containing the President of the Republic of Korea; Chun slowly got out of the backseat of the vehicle, obviously wounded & it became quite clear he was bleeding from his wounds. Looking at Keisha, Daniela & a few of the STF members & knowing the end was inevtiable: Chun growled "You STUPID ass terrorists will suffer the consequences for this. Do you know who the Hell I am ? I am the President of the Republic of Korea!" Daniela launched her pistol at him from behind, Keisha remained calm holding her high-powered shotgun at the ready facing him. Then as Chun tried to pull his pistol on the assailants...... They opened fire on him: BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG! Keisha walked up slowly facing Chun as he was bleeding out & said "You need to stop meddling in other country's affairs you piece of SHIT!" as she fired five fatal shots, hitting him in the right side of his face, chest & stomach killing him...... With that, the 11th & 12th President of Korea, His Excellency Chun Doo-hwan was gone. He was 55 years old.
Satisfied, Keisha & the Secret Task Force got into their vehicles & left the outskirts heading for unknown destinations (more on that later in the TL).
