Assassination attempts and successes on American presidents are seen throughout fiction. I've written several myself.
Which examples can you think of that have been crafted well? Books, TV, films, web tales?

Shooter series on Netflix is a great example. A former Marine Scout Sniper is framed in a failed assassination attempt.

I can't think of any in fiction. I have a damned good idea for a story or TV miniseries involving one, but I'll never get around to writing it.
There was a good TL I saw on ah.com where the Reagan assassination attempt is fatal, I read it a few weeks ago but I've lost track of it now. IIRC there's another one where Bush is killed on 9/11 which was quite well written.

The one that comes to mind with me is Clink Eastwood's role as a agent protecting the President in "In the Line of Fire" Not only is he seeking to stop an assassin there but his character is haunted by being unable to prevent the death of JFK earlier in his career.
Not the US President but of course there's "The Day of the Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth about an attempt to kill De Gaulle.
There have probably been a number of films and books based on historical assassinations, especially of US Presidents but I can't think of one off the top of my head.

There's a lot you don't know about him. For instance checking on the name of the film I noticed one of his 1st roles, back in 1955 was in a film on Lady Godiva where he had the role of "1st Saxon".

Well there is also Olympus Has Fallen - 2013 action thriller film in which North Korean terrorists attack Washington, D.C. and take over the White House in which they assassinate the South Korean Prime Minister during a visit and also attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, but of course one single guy stops that from happening.

Which reminded me of a similar one, set at an ice rink where a terrorist is attempting to kill the President among other people and I think he's an ex military guy who is there with his son saving the day but can't remember the name of the film or the leading man.
There's also the Harrison Ford film Air Force One where he plays the President who is also the man who saves the day when Air Force One is seized by Russian hard line terrorists.

That would be Sudden Death (1995 film) with Jean-Claude Van Damme being that ex military guy.

Excellent thanks. Did have a feeling it was Van Damme but wasn't sure.

Stephen Counts’ Under Siege featured an attempted assassination with rather dire consequences.
