Is Nixon considered on of America's best president? Did Huber t Humphrey or Ted Kennedy run for president in 76 0r 80? Unfortunately, Richard Nixon went down in history as the poster boy for corruption and crookedness in the White House. Because he's better known for the Watergate scandal--in which his administration was involved in a burglary of the DNC headquarters and tried to cover up its involvement thereafter--other achievements of his like starting the EPA and diplomatic victories in China have largely been forgotten by the public at large. Ultimately, after the House commenced impeachment proceedings against him and the Supreme Court ruled that he had to hand over evidence of his wrongdoing, Nixon was forced to resign in August 1974. He was succeeded by Gerald Ford the following September, who pardoned Nixon (which cleared him legally, but helped contribute to Ford losing the 1976 election to Democratic nominee Jimmy Carter, who's still serving as governor of Georgia in your time). As for Hubert Humphrey he seems to have never run again (and passed away before he could do so in 1980). Ted Kennedy tried running in 1980, but President Carter warded him off and still clinched the Democratic nomination. Of course, he lost in a veritable blowout to GOP nominee Ronald Reagan, who you'd know as the famous actor turned governor of California. A combination of spiraling 'Stagflation' and the Iranian hostage crisis at the last minute royally screwed his bid for reelection, it turns out.

Apparently not (else I probably would've heard the name 'John V. Tunney' by now ). In fact, 1984 was an even bigger landslide victory for President Reagan than last time. For starters, he took home 49 states and 525 electoral votes, while Democratic nominee Walter Mondale took just 13 electoral votes and only carried D.C. and his home state of Minnesota. But perhaps pictures get the idea across better more than simple words can. Second, Star Trek remains a premier science-fiction franchise even nowadays. In your near-future, Star Trek: The Animated Series will grace the airwaves, and then a slew of subsequent series with different--but equally compelling and beloved--characters will premiere as well. Oddly enough, Star Trek: The Next Generation is the one that I'm most familiar with (as someone born long after the 1970s, that is ).

OOC: Nice! I missed these. BIC: Did you guys ever figure out teleportation? Or, at least, flying cars? OOCWell, I suppose it's good that I brought them back, then. BICUnfortunately, teleportation doesn't seem to be a thing outside of science fiction and discussion as it pertains to quantum physics (which I don't pretend to remotely understand). So I'm sorry to say it, but I don't think my insight will be of much help in that arena. As for flying cars, the best we have appears to be some prototype models that aren't nearly ready for mass-production quite yet. The New Hampshire senate seems to have approved a bill giving the green light to 'roadable aircraft', though, but it still needs the House's approval and the governor's signature before it can become law.

Have the Boston Red Sox finally overcome "The Curse of The Bambino" and won a world series?
How much are Digital Equipment Corporation shares going for now?
How did you survive the "New" ice age and world wide famon due to overpopulation?

That's a shame . What TV shows from the 1970s are still going? Well, there seem to be quite a number of them from much earlier than your time, mainly newscasts and talkshows by the looks of it. Let's Make a Deal is still on the air, even though it transferred from network to network over the years. The same goes for Jeopardy! and The 700 Club, among a number of others whose names and airdates I've been able to find thus far. Also, Sesame Street, whose more recent episodes I watched as a little kid (I was born long after the Seventies ended, by the way). And if you're willing to stretch the defining of ongoing TV series to include different shows that fall under the same franchise and are centered on the same band of characters (albeit different incarnations of them from show to show), then Scooby Doo! counts as well. There are, of course, a number of others, but they look too exhaustive for me to list in one go. Shows that have cropped up long after the Seventies, however, are more my area of expertise.

I was reading about a woman who supported Goldwater IN 64. Her name was Hilary. I am sure by your time she was a life long republican I bet she even ran for elected office either in New York Illinois. Another politician I am sure became president was Charles Percy he was considered the republican answer to j.f.k. I am also sure Mayor John Lindsay by 1980 he was elected GOVERNOR. by now WE HAD ANY southern Democrats?

Another politician I am sure became president was Charles Percy he was considered the republican answer to j.f.k. I am also sure Mayor John Lindsay by 1980 he was elected GOVERNOR. by now WE HAD ANY southern Democrats? No, Hillary switched to the Democratic Party in 1968, and remained with the party ever since. She became First Lady once Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton was elected to the presidency in 1992, becoming a senator from New York in 2000 (and reelected to that position in 2006). She ran for office in 2008, losing the Democratic nomination to the man who'd become our first African-American POTUS, Barack Obama. Hillary ran again in 2016 on a platform of 'inclusive capitalism' and the prospect of being the first female POTUS, but lost to businessman, reality TV star and GOP nominee Donald Trump in the most stunning electoral upset .
As for Southern Democrats, Bill Clinton--who, as mentioned before, served as Governor of Arkansas in the years leading up to the election--became president in 1992. Because of a combination of the shortcomings of incumbent POTUS George H.W. Bush, and Clinton's charisma and ability to move the Democratic Party substantially rightwards in response to the changing paradigm of things, Clinton won a plurality of the popular vote and 370 electoral votes (and was also reelected in the subsequent 1996 election, to boot). While in office, Clinton's presidency was much characterized by centrist 'Third Way' policies that included certain economic deregulation, signings of international trade agreements, and welfare reform so that those on the lower rungs of society could better 'help themselves', rather than remain perpetually dependent on government assistance. He wasn't without his baggage, however, as evinced by the Monica Lewinsky scandal (and subsequent impeachment trial due to perjury charges) and massive tough-on-crime legislation that, in retrospect, is widely regarded as counterproductive nowadays (i.e. the the 1994 crime bill).

Zyobot in a period when The USA is so divided and hysterical with partisan propaganda being passed off as historical fact just to support an ideology. I find your answers to "Insects" questions a breath of fresh air. Your response is factual verifiable history without a trace of the current anger, hatred and fanaticism and outright propaganda.
Very well done. This is why I come here to escape the political insanity.

Very well done. This is why I come here to escape the political insanity. Thank you. Even if it's not readily available out in the real world right about now, I'm glad you've found relief in at least this thread. Have the Boston Red Sox finally overcome "The Curse of The Bambino" and won a world series?

How did you survive the "New" ice age and world wide famon due to overpopulation? In answer to your first question, it appears that they have. Though the curse apparently lasted up to 2004, the Boston Red Sox became the first to win four World Series trophies in 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018. Onto your second one, the Digital Equipment Corporation was acquired by Compaq, a computer company founded in 1982 that became known for legally reverse-engineering the IBM personal computer and being the largest PC supplier throughout the 1990s until being overtaken. Lastly, it turns out there was no new ice age, and so far overpopulation hasn't completely overwhelmed the planet ( though those numbers are definitely still growing, and looked primed to reach eight billion fairly soon). There is, however, the looming threat of global warming and calamitous climate change that awaits if we do nothing to curb our carbon emissions and promote ecological sustainability. Even ignoring those specific perils, there's still extensive pollution like huge oil spills and the the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which have seriously blighted the world around us and leave a less-than-impressive instance of 'human achievement' to behold .

Granted, that might not all sound like another giant leap for mankind yet. Nevertheless, NASA and private space companies alike plan to colonize Mars within the next few decades. One such company being SpaceX, which is a leading pioneer of burgeoning commercial spaceflight and hoping to establish a 'mega-colony' by 2050.
