Is it? Among nerds like us, sure, but more broadly? Well the New Zealanders voted to keep it thus it must have something special to them. One of the arguments in favor of it was that it was the flag that their men died under in the World Wars. |

And will for the near future, unless New Zeeland becomes a republic, then i would assume they will change the flag to remove their British link. |

Maybe, but Fiji has kept its flag in the meantime as a Republic (but seems as if it wants to change it). They're announcing a new one in July. |
