Prologue: The Rise of the Southern Dems

November 6th, 2024: Former LA Governor John Bel Edwards (D) addressing supporters at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown
Baton Rouge, LA after being declared the winner of the 2024 Presidential election.
"What in the Hell just happened ?" one political analyst said, "How did this guy from LA become President & defeat FL Governor Ron DeSantis (R)?" After serving 2 successful terms as LA's 56th Governor from January 11th, 2016 to January 8th, 2024, John Bel Edwards (D) had left the LA Governor's Mansion with a resounding 73% approval rating among all Louisianans with strong approval of all demographics, both political parties including 18-34 year-olds. He was succeeded by former New Orleans, LA Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D), who was elected defeating former LA State AG Jeff Landry (R) in a nasty, ugly campaign in the Runoff Election by double digits (57% to 42%), the LA Dems slowly began a resurgence in the Pelican State due to JBE's popularity & successful achievements in having a budget surplus at record highs. During his 2nd term, many were shocked when then-New Orleans City Councilwoman At-Large Helena Moreno (D) defeated then-United States Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) in 2022, which that campaign got ugly pretty quickly, the GOTV efforts from JBE, the LA Dems & others propelled Moreno to victory (53% to 47%).
Soon after leaving the Governorship, Edwards continued his 2024 campaign for the Presidency (which he declared his candidacy in June 2023) & surprised many political experts by dominating Super Tuesday in the Southern states overwhelmingly as well as winning the early contests: NH, NV & SC. The other Dem contenders were shell-shocked & dumbfounded as they couldn't fathom how to stop Edwards' momentum: the negative TV Advertising commercials backfired on several of them. Once it became clear, the Moderate-to-Conservative Blue Dog Dem would become the Dem nominee for the Presidency, the liberals in the party got triggered & nagged non-stop. Many in the national media assumed Edwards would pick someone on the liberal, progressive side to be VP, but nobody knew whom the former LA Governor was going to tap as his VP on the Dem ticket: the shortlist ranged from United States Senators, Big City Mayors, Governors, etc.,
The GOP had used the typical playbook in attacking JBE's reputation, which backfired on them multiple times: first they targeted his family's personal lives, even going so far as to wiretapping the residence of his daughter. Then, the National GOP used their special diet: Southern Strategy by using the "Tax, Tax, Tax, Spend, Spend, Spend". The JBE campaign responded by stating, "Once again, the opposition has used the same, tired old negative attacks that have backfired. The American people don't have any time to listen to their lies & smear campaigns. We've seen how Washington, DC had tried to launch similar attacks five years ago, which failed. After seeing the chaos at Capitol Hill, the American people want to turn the page on fear & division, they want to turn the page & chart a new direction because it's time that we put the American people first!"
