I fell in love with BattleTech back when it was in its first few years. When the Fourth Succession War was a big deal. I'll admit that I don't like the modern stuff. That is the Fedcom Civil War to the present.
Any other BT fans around?

I played it a bit with some friends ~30 years back. Can't remember for sure but think it was in my uni years [85-88]. Not a great fan as one of the problems was even if no one used flame-throwers some effects would start fires and they always seemed to spread until virtually the entire map was aflame. Made heat sinks even more bloody important. A fun short game but I much prefer strategy ones.

To me the game was all about strategy especially when planning for continent wide campaigns. The entire thing about the heat sinks was to make heat management a major part of the game. This held true until the "Clan Era" when everyone started using double heat sinks and you could field battlemechs with narry a worry about heat build up.

Ah we were probably playing an earlier version then or a limited set as it was only tactical battles.

Started my BT fanboyism back when Mechwarrior 4: Vengence was a thing (and its spinoff game Mercenaries with all its Ducan Fisher glory).
