From everything I've read regarding Star Wars expanded universe sources, Alderaan was arguably the major moral and more importantly financial core of support for the rebellion.
One can imagine if they wanted to be consistent that the rebellion might've been even more effective in the long run.
On the other hand in universe it seems the destruction of alderaan had a major unifying effect on the various parts of the rebellion.

Of course, I'm not sure how much this PoD would change in the grand scheme of things since the Imperials might call in a team of Star Destroyers to go Base Delta Zero mode on Alderaan anyway.

Had to google Base Delta Zero up, it is almost the same as Exterminatus from Warhammer 40,000.

There may not be as much terrified shock and awe on Leia's part since the fleet would take a while to completely scour all life on Alderaan, but how drawn out the extermination is would take its toll on her psyche and emotional state as she's forced to watch helplessly...but can do nothing to stop it.
