Last WW1 Rifle-Armed Frontline Unit - Mark Felton Productions - 492 Slight correction - the Sirius Patrol was raised by 1950 but had been preceded by the Wartime Northeast Greenland Sleighpatrol which did reconnaisance work to establish the whereabouts of German Meteologiacal stations in NE Greenland and at a couple of instances were in firefights with the Germans.
As related in the video the use of the bolt-action rifle is because of its the one being relied upon to work in -40C and below. As also relayed the Canadian unit still is equipped with (modern) boltaction Rifles. The mainly initial tone of the presenter of it being silly to still use bolt-action rifles by modern Military Units is out the window which he almost agree to. But still there is the tone of "come on find some modern auto plastic rifle to do the job".
Old WWI rifles were made to survive handling by basic trained Infantry in combat in any environment - to be able to withstand being kicked around and still WORK when needed. That old rifle does so. An auto or semiauto have too many moving parts to be 100% reliable in the given environment - why else would the Canadians stick to a bolt-action. Besides as the M1 Rifle in 30-06 was the main Danish Infantry Rifle (carried it myself) for about 40 years which came with all the cartridges mentioned in use so there was plenty ammo around and the M53/17 was phased out early of Danish Army use and was around in large numbers to choose from when replace with the M1. So no cost in procurement - lots of ammo around - RELAIABLE.
And do remember even if called a frontline unit this unit is strategic reconnaisance in a huge Arctic Area. Even if it fought during WWII it isn't its intended role. Its to show off guard the uninhabited lands which is a National Park and act as Police. It's not a Commando unit but a very special Special Forces operating in Arctic Conditions.

Hitler's Royal Nemesis - The King on the Horse - Mark Felton Productions - 504
Interesting although Mark does make one odd factual error. Denmark was occupied to give access for the invasion of Norway but that wasn't to remove Anglo-French forces as those only entered Norway after the German invasion of Norway began.
I do remember reading a story once, long time ago that in response to the German demand that Danish Jews had to wear the star of David the king himself also wore it but given no such event was mentioned in the above film I wonder if that's a myth or possibly some memory error on my part.

Right on the first.
Second - I remember it being used in the Exodus movie by one of the Kibbutz kids/teenagers. Its a myth. The King did take great aversion to the persecution of HIS Jewish SUBJECTS. An interesting bit is that following the flight of the Jews whatever left behind was secured the the Social Services of the local munincipality or Ministry to be able to had all back to the rightfull owners when they returned! As far as I know this was a one off in Europe.
Actually things didn't go that well in Norway where a lot of Jewish property was stolen. Nother thing was the flight and evacuation of the Danish Jews. About nothing had been prepared as the Germans only tipped off Danish authorities in the last moment. It was done on the fly which is actually quite astonishing. There are lots of stories of Danes just knocking on doors of Jews telling them to pack and come along to be hidded for some days untill transport to Sweden could be arranged. Some was apprehended by the Nazis but it was some 500 of the 8000 total. What is like astonishing is the evacuation of Nordic - Danes, Norwegians, Swedes internees from Konzentration Camps in Northern Germany during the final months of the war. Some 20,000 camp inmates not just Nordic were evacuated towards the end a lot of non-nordic women were also evacuated. The action is drawn up as a Swedish scheme by Count Bernadotte but the early attempt to bring back prisoners was made by Danish officials. The majority of peoples transported were on Danish vehicles as the Swedes pulled out of the operation. Some of the transports were attacked by Allied aircraft as the Germans were known/suspected of abusing the Red Cross markings, which made for killed and wounded.

OK thanks for clarifying on that point.
