I hate to say this but a nuclear retaliatory or preemptive strike is not beyond the realm of possibility.
The Cold War nuclear exchange I lived with my entire life (including the Cuban Missile crisis averted only by the good sense and courage of Nikita Khrushchev) scares the crap out of me. Not for my life, (I've had a good run) but that of my loved ones especially my grand children.

We visited the Heroes Square and listened to a Hungarian Professor who had been a young boy when the Russian tanks rolled over his city. Not exactly the most fun filled afternoon of the cruise. According to the Professor the United States, despite a lot of talk about freeing the enslaved people of Eastern Europe, did nothing.  Enough said! |

Definitely a danger once Ukraine is subdued. He has more of an excuse here in terms of annexing his puppet state of Transistria than he did for attack Ukraine and its a small step that would also probably strengthen his control over Ukraine. O

NATO & Russia Nearly Went to War - Kosovo 1999 - Mark Felton Productions - 281 I wouldn't say nearly. The Russians and NATO did not want to shoot each other. We've seen similar encounters in Syria that only lead to shouting matches before commanders of both sides calmed down the situation. |

That sounds especially worrying in that with the NATO AWACS in the area that 1st big and slow drone wasn't picked up. It seems Zagreb was very lucky it landed where it did and no one died but if launched by Ukraine it was way off course. Also worrying that Hungary, which had the drone on its radar for quite a time didn't report it to either Croatia prior to it approaching their air space or NATO.
The Russian drones, being a lot smaller are probably a lot stealthier its less surprising their not being detected and intercepted but its still worrying and the sheer number of such incidents suggest that Russia is actively scouting NATO nations bordering Ukraine. Which is very close to an act of war.
