I to am cautiously optimistic. But as I pointed out it had some design flaws that dragged the experience Down for me (was I the only one who thought the instructor's purple hair was rather garish?). No girl in anime has normal hair. That Depends, many Girls in anime have pretty normal hairstyles and -colours. It is just that important characters tend to have more noteworthy appearances to make them stand out from the rest and add variety.

So the second episode of Haifuri features the German Battleship/Pocket Battleship/heavy cruiser/cruiser/whatever Graf Spee. So far I have to give it to them, the studio is clearly striving to be original by using WW2 ships that don't commonly appear in fiction. Charecterisation, backstory, world building and plot, oh my! Probably more in this one episode then in all of Yuki Yuna put together (although this is not hard). And may I just state right away that some of the landscape shots look absolutly Beautiful?

Some of the charecters and their quircks are starting to grow on me and the art looks pretty good whenever they are not using CGI. The only Thing I disliked was Mashiro's constant mentioning of how unlucky she is, which got annoying. Also a thought: since they are using ships that don't commonly appear in fiction then "De Ruyter" might make an appearance to.

I think that if a average anime show is 12 episodes we will see a lot of ships appearing, but i do not think the "De Ruyter" might make an appearance because the Japanese love Germans and Japanese hardware like ships and tanks a lot more than a Netherlands ship they do not now much about.

I think it Will depend on if they have to go to Indonesia for plot. In this timeline that place most likely continued to be a Dutch colony and possible had the capital relocated there (would that make Batavia New Amsterdam or New New Amsterdam?) so it would be an obvious opportunity to show of some Dutch ships. And remember that Graf Spee is far less famous than either Bismarch, Tirpitz or Prinz Eugen so it not like the studio is just going for the ships audiences are likely to know about.

They know why they are being accused of mutiny: They fired on the Sarushima, which somehow sank the ship despite them using a dummy torpedo. They now seem to be trying to figure out why the Sarushima fired on them first.

I think the instructor was being controlled by somebody, it is also explain that the instructor was saved but could not answer any questions due to being unconscious, if she wakes up she will remember that the Sarushima was not at fault, but until that happens the Sarushima is on here own.

In that case the entire crew must have been controlled. You also seem to have confused the the Sarushima With the Harekaze (the later is the ship the main cast is on). Also, I am calling it now, the depth charge mentioned in episode two is going to become relevant later on.

My mistake, do not now the ships very when, but did notice that the ship the instructor was on looked like a Independence-class littoral combat ship, that is if i saw it right.

You can be forgiven by that the Harekaze is a fictional ship (though in universe it is a modified Kagerou-class destroyer similar to Shimakaze). And yes, the Sarushima is a modified Independence-class LCS (although there was a minor inconsistency when the 57mm Bofor turns into a 127mm turret in between shots) This could actually be used as evidence later since a primed Long-Lance torpedo would have scattered the Sarushima and her crew across a pretty wide area instead of just making a hole in the hull.

Barely that, but untill the authorities investigate the wreck the Harekaze is still assumed guilty of mutiny and in Japan, you are guilty untill proven innocent.
