Although this is a rather complicated canton, I really like the effect of the stars. It is nice, the flag for the United Kingdom in that universe is also nice. Dawn of Victory (internet, mod)
Is that *Vichy Britain?

When designing a new flag for your municipality, please make sure you do not put on the flag which might offend people, like a huge yellow star that reminds people of the davidster. New flag for Noordoost Fryslân after criticism of 'davidster'That the yellow star on the design of the new flag of the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân is reminiscent of a Star of David, no one at the municipal council had imagined. The council unanimously approved the design last week. But when the brand new flag was presented on social media, the criticism came. The flag could have been used at festive events, high visits and other events. But what the council had not taken into account was the commotion that ensued afterwards. According to some, that yellow star on the flag, derived from the municipal coat of arms, was reminiscent of a Star of David, and thus the persecution of the Jews.

I can see a point but not sure how much weight it actually has. What does reminiscent mean? That it has 6 points? If so that's a pretty broad definition and other than that it has nothing else to match the actual star of David, which is of course used on the Israeli flag! I know there are stars on other flags, although I think their normally 5 pointed so presumably their accepted as OK? I don't know if a 6 pointed star has meaning to any group outside Judaism, or why the municipality choose a 6 pointed star but if it has historical or cultural meaning for them it does seem harsh to say that their forbidden to use the symbol at all. If it was some Neo-nazi or other anti-Semitic group I could see that but this does seem OOT.
I'm reminded of the recent Mark Felton video about symbols hi-jacked by the Nazis and what he said about the Swastika. It had a much wider use than I realised and it appears is still used as a good luck symbol across much of east Asia for instance as well as being engraved on a town hall near where he grew up. It will be tainted for the foreseeable future in Europe and the west but I think we need to have some logic on such issues.

Even so, there where some Jewish organisation who feel that this looks like the Davidstar and with it relates to the Holocaust, that is enough for the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân to feel not happy with having this as their municipality flag.
