Armed Forces of the Philippines as of 1988 If you look at some of the listed equipments they are not accurately named. Some of the stats are unrealistic. So take these list and stats with a grain of salt. Source: Asia 1988 Yearbook. Reposted by Aumar S. Marasigan, The Cold War in the Philippines

Here's what I got for Japan: Japan Ground Self-Defense Force major commandsUnits and equipment of the United States Forces JapanGreat work gillan1220 . I found these maps on the internet. It would explain the distribution of forces in Japan. You'd see the Japan focuses more on minesweeping, coastal patrol, and air defense which is a legacy of the Cold War. Now in current times, they face threat from North Korean ballistic missiles and Chinese incursions. Also if you noticed, the U.S. Navy base in Sasebo focuses on amphibious assault ships and minesweeping since Sasabo is directly facing South Korea. In the event of a Second Korean War, the Marines from Sasebo would be the first to be deployed. The minesweepers would probably be securing the Tsushima Strait in case the North Koreans placed mines to harass U.S. and Japanese ships.
