'Efficient FTL Travel In Warhammer 40K'. As in, the ability to zip across the galaxy in a few hours similar to Star Wars. Which has some issues (i.e. the Great Hyperspace Disaster), but nothing like the psychic hellscape known as the Warp. |

Well that would reduce the threat from Chaos a bit if not needing to open the Warp. However it does mean, assuming that most/all races have this capacity, that everybody is vulnerable to sudden attack so could make for a very unstable galaxy. Just about anyone could turn up at Sol system at any point so the empire for instance would have to have a huge fleet permanently committed to its defence which would drain the forces available for defending elsewhere or attacking known opponents.

Han Solo awards himself a personal yault and then resigns. I can't see him having the patience to deal with hundreds of squabbling politicians let alone other interests.

Sounds fair to me. Although, I wonder who his VP would be, since they're automatically next in line for office?
Scruffy Fuzzball himself is the obvious choice, but while he's no doubt intelligent (and probably smarter than most humans, at that), I can't see a president unable to vocalize human speech lasting very long. In which case, maybe Chewbacca will have to pick a VP to succeed him, before swiftly resigning himself.
