During Bastille Day in 2002, a lone gunman attempted to murder President Chirac. That failed assassin - Maxime Brunerie - was linked to far-right, neo-Nazi causes. I'm sure there will be domestic implications inside France. What about internationally with France's external relations when a new president is elected (there has to be elections in the event of a death of the president)?
