The first POD happens on April 13, 1972 in Ottawa, Canada. Arthur Bremer gets close enough to President Nixon that he takes out his pistol and shots. He misses the President but wounds a Secret Service agent and some bystanders. He is instantly arrested and later convicted of attempted murder. The RCMP searches his car and finds his diary. It gets published and still inspires Taxi Driver.
The second POD happens at the Democratic Convention. OTL McGovern considered naming Sargent Shriver as his original running mate but found out that Shriver disillusioned about his chances as being named as the Vice Presidential pick after being unsuccessfully considered in 1964 and 1968, had gone on a business trip to Moscow and could not get back to the convention. ITTL Pierre Salinger, who had pushing Shriver to McGovern, convinces Shriver not to go to Moscow and instead go to the convention. He gets picked.
The third POD comes after Shriver wins the nomination. The convention adjourns and McGovern and Shriver give their speeches in prime time the next night.
The fourth POD comes on September 17, 1972, reports leak to the press that Maryland US Attorney’s office is investigating Spiro Agnew for taking bribes during his days a Governor of Maryland and Baltimore County Executive had taken bribes. Actual prosecutors are quoted in news stories, President Nixon fires the prosecutors who spoke to the press.

On November 9, 1972. the day after the election, Vice President Spiro Agnew was indicted for tax evasion. On November 17, 1972, Vice President enters a plea of no contest. He is given a sentence of one year in prison, a $ 10, 000 fine and having to pay his back taxes. He can’t afford to pay his back taxes, so his friend Frank Sinatra loans him $ 200,000. He uses his time in prison to write the Canfield Decision. Which does well when published in 1973. After his release, while he lost his license to practice law, he was able to open a successful consulting business. He was able to repay Sinatra and pay the 2$ 289,000 judgement that forced him to repay his bribe money to the state of Maryland. He died a wealthy man.
December 1972, President Nixon calls on Republican electors to vote for John Conally for Vice President. On August 9, 1974, just as in OTL , the day after Vice President John Conally is indicted for bribery. ITTL he becomes President. In December 1974, after Nelson Rockefeller is confirmed as Vice President, the House Judiciary Committee drafts an article of impeachment. On January 3, 1975 President Conally resigns. With Conally bribery allegations, the 1974 midterms become more of a Democratic landslide. Bill Clinton is elected to Congress. In the best case scenario, he is reelected in the Democratic year of 1976. He then realizes it will be harder to hold his marginal district with a Democrat in the White House. He runs and is elected Governor of Arkansas. Hillary leaves her Congressional staff job and gets a job with the Rose Law Firm. Bill develops a national reputation. He is, just as OTL, elected President in 1992, but ITTL he knows Congress better and gets a health care program enacted.
