At the time of the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, North Korean commandos went into South Korea and conducted the Blue House raid to try to kill SK's leader. They failed. Meanwhile, through many years, both sides had been sending commandos (SK ones going north wasn't talked about; everyone has heard of the NK tunnels going south though) into each other's territory. The US was busy in Vietnam yet still had men in SK while the SK's had significant troops in Vietnam. This would make the balance of forces in the North's favour, plus their army was something significant then... not the thing it is now.
Could things post Blue House raid fast spin out of control? Would war occur? Does it go nuclear if the US and South Korea look likely to lose? Thoughts?

Interesting and worrying. Sound like it could have spiraled into a wider war, especially if the Blue House raid had been more successful. Suspect that China wouldn't have supported Kim this time if he had blundered into another war, especially since he was culling people associated with Beijing. Russia might have or might not. However could have been pretty nasty for the region and possibly also have spread wider. At the time the US had a pretty powerful army but would be likely to see losses fairly early on in terms of territory and might have had to make serious concessions in Vietnam.

Some already say that the period of 1966-1969 was called the Second Korean War ore also going by the name of the korean DMZ Conflict
