What about Operation Chattanooga Choo-Choo, a WW II allied plan which saw the systematic air bombing of railroads on trains in France, Germany and Northern Europe. |

What about Operation Chattanooga Choo-Choo, a WW II allied plan which saw the systematic air bombing of railroads on trains in France, Germany and Northern Europe. The Allies had no chill. Destroying the Nazis' railroads using a pun operation really shows how sure of victory they were. |

With the Panama invasion, Colin Powell who was then the chairman of the joint chiefs liked the name Just Cause because it would be said in the media even by opponents: thus helping the propaganda effort for the conflict. Didn't work with the US military rank-and-file, who nicknamed it Just Because! |

My favourite codenames weren't for military operation but secret U.K. projects: the Rainbow codes
How can you not warm to a country that calls VX nerve gas 'Purple Possum' or a nuclear weapon 'Blue Danube'?
