I'm getting a house in Brixworth. It's just between all the big boomie stuff, and there is no way that anyone would get hurt there. According to the map. Well that is nice to hear, but then again we do not know if the 2018 targets would be different compared to the 1970 and 1980s map that are posted here. True, but one can hope. But then again, I prefer living in cities, so I'm getting the best deal in a full nuclear war. |

Well i think everybody living in a British city can be assured that they are a target. People blast my adopted city in every WW3 nuclear scenario. Its only small. It is no longer what it was once with military importance. We still get blasted. Russia would still glass this little city in any nuclear war too, just because. It is all rather unfair. |

I live in a pretty well targeted area - from a naval base to my west to a major Air Force base to my east and I live fairly close to my city's airport. So, i'm pretty well fucked when the missiles fly.

So, i'm pretty well fucked when the missiles fly. Duck and cover! I once read an article somewhere about military bases near cities. The suggestion was that bases should be purposely move away into isolated areas so that if nuclear or conventional war came, civilian casualties would be lower (that ignores radiation in a nuclear attack). That seemed to make sense. The article pointed out though that such an act might make war more likely because civilians were effectively held as hostages against a strike by their own governments even unintentionally. An attacker thus might strike thinking a response might not come if civilians weren't killed in great numbers. It was quite interesting and made me think. I am still not sure whether I agree with the idea though. |

From the Guardian some more info i found: UK government's secret list of 'probable nuclear targets' in 1970s releasedThere were disputes about some of the estimates, with one memo pointing out that Home Office scientific advisers "find it difficult to see why an enemy would wish to deliver a three-megaton attack on Swansea and on Leicester when, in their view, one megaton on each target would be sufficient to cause almost complete destruction of those cities." According to military planners, some of Britain's remoter regions could also be blasted. A radar station at Saxa Vord, now a holiday resort on the UK's most northerly populated island of Unst in Shetland, was down to be hit by a three-megaton bomb. Another target was Orford Ness on the Suffolk coast, which was involved in an experimental US radar system known as Cobra Mist and is now a nature reserve. Nuclear submarine bases on the Clyde near Glasgow were on the list, along with nuclear airfields like those at Greenham Common in Berkshire and Machrihanish on the Mull of Kintyre. |

Well, if the nuclear exchange occurs in 1980's, i'm still living with my parents in Northwest Arkansas. From what i've read, Arkansas would receive multiple hits, notable the Titan-2 ICBM complexes south of Searcy, Little Rock AFB would be attacked, there was a SAC base in the northeast part of the state and i've seen one map where Ft. Smith would be nuked. Add to the fallout from all the ground detonations in Missouri and i'm pretty well cooked.

The attacker might have different priorities than what is assumed. Weapons targeted on that location might never get off the ground, they might miss or be retargeted elsewhere at the last minute to something more important not hit in the first go strike due to problems. The two sides might negotiate an immediate ceasefire once the first missiles have flown.
It is always speculation. Thankfully, we never found out.

There should be a cluster of ground detonations in mid-south/south west Missouri from the old Titan-2 missile complexes there if we're talking about a nuclear exchange in 1983. And the closets nuclear detonation to me would be Arkansas Nuclear One plant in London, at the extreme edge of western Pope county. Chances are, we'd definitely get fallout from that where I used to live.
