Election of 1788 The first election for the new republic is about to begin, and the executive seat of the president is highly contested. Everyone's top pick is George Washington, a popular general who is being seen as the father of the new republic. Although Washington has announced he will not be running, instead of retiring to his home in Virginia, and this move has caused a void in the politics of the country which is quickly trying to be filled by other parties. The Pro-Federalist "party" is running candidates on experience, running Pre-constitution Politicians including Minister John Adams, Former Presidents of Congress John Jay and John Hancock, Governor John Rutledge, Governor Samuel Huntington and a list of generals including Massachusett's Benjamin Lincoln and Henry Knox along with Virginia's Artemas Ward. Meanwhile, the Anti-Federalist "Party" has nominated popular and well-known names, including General Anthony Wayne, Governor Patrick Henry, and Former President of Congress Richard Henry Lee. There are also a few minor Anti-Federalists who are running their own campaigns, including minor New York politician and general George Clintoln and Pennsylvanian General Peter Muhlenberg.
