What if: German invasion of Switzerland (Operation Tannenbaum)

  It might depend on the circumstances.  Having been besieged for ~4 years they might not have much capacity for pushing into Austria or southern Germany.  Could be content just to liberate their own country and start rebuilding as between what could be an hard fought occupation and then an even harder fought liberation much of the country could be in a bad way.  The other factor however, provided that the roads aren't too badly disrupted, is that possibly the allies could use Switzerland to at least broaden the front the Germans have to defend.  There might even be an argument for seriously pressing the campaign in Italy earlier to seek to relieve the Swiss from the south.

  The big problem with the scenario I fear however is can the Redoubt last all this time?  Its mainly the mountainous uplands so there's very little agricultural land.  Even if they can conserve their weapons and munitions can they feed themselves that long?

  One other butterfly from the Nazis attacking the Swiss.  Its not likely to be a place Nazis can shelter in or use as a link to get to Latin America say so you might see more of the war criminals caught when the Nazi empire falls apart.  Also they won't be able to store their loot in Switzerland, although no doubt they will seek to find somewhere else.  [Don't know if Sweden might end up holding a lot of looted art treasures and the like?]
