Suppose Oswald had killed both Kennedy and Johnson. Speaker McCormack would have become President, and at the time of the 1964 election, he would have been almost 72. Would he have run? Would he have been nominated had he chosen to run? Would he have defeated Goldwater? If he wasn't nominated, who would have been?

Probably. Or another assassin. But it's not so much how it could have happened that sparked this, as what the result would have been.

Sure, it would be hard, but figure it any way you like — two assassins or put them closer together or have Oswald being even a better shot. I'm interested in the _effect_ this has afterwards.

Would McCormack try for the nomination? He'd have been almost 72. Assuming he didn't, or that RFK could have taken it easily, I'd expect the latter to win the election though not as big as Johnson did. RFK could of course have served two terms. Could he have, as an incumbent, beaten Nixon in 68? Who would be RFK's VP? John Connally would have been a likely choice for obvious reasons, especially if he'd been wounded by Oswald as in OTL. So yes, I would expect RFK to serve two terms, and by beating Nixon in 68, putting an end to his political life.
in 1972, the field would be clear for Reagan, who might have picked John Tower as his running mate, in hopes of winning Texas away from Connally, whose reputation had been damaged by wiretapping scandals in the RFK administration. But Connally was easily nominated by the Democrats, and chose Henry Jackson for his VP running mate, and notably not Edward Kennedy, Senator from Massachusetts, in an attempt to get away from the Kennedy image. It almost worked, but they lost to Reagan/Tower in a close race.
